This is probably one of the coolest things I have ever seen. And those are also the most insane pennies I have ever seen!!! That's just awesome!!!
eBay Gamble In an effort to find nice coins that are overlooked on eBay, I sometimes take gambles. I find coins sold by Sellers that either don't specialize in coins, don't know how to photograph coins, or don't have a lot of feedback. In this case, I hit the trifecta!! :hail: ...note the Seller's name (duviosgangsta) http://www.ebay.com/itm/320951298928?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 When I do this, sometimes I get screwed. However, I've also received some incredibly nice coins. I bought an 1860 Pointed Bust Indian Head cent for $80 that NGC slabbed MS65! I hope I didn't get screwed in this case. There's also a "chance" it could grade MS65 or higher...which would be nice pickup! What do you think? ...would you bid on an auction like this? I'll post clear pics when I get the coin. If it looks nice enough, I'll have it graded and post the results. :thumb:
the army navy token is interesting. I have seen one near here and have wondered about it. Do you happen to know it's rarity? Of course, the one I have seen has a hole and could be fake.
Nice clash marks (I love die cracks and clash marks!). I don't know early halves...is that one of the overdate varieties?
yeah, yakpoo, that is a good strategy, one that I use as well. with your purchase, since it comes in the plastic with papers from GSA, I would say you can't go wrong with that auction. I don't know whether it would grade MS65 +, but I would say thats a good gamble. one other thing to look for on overlooked coins is errors in the listings. I found this one today, I thought I had a chance to get it for a steal, but apparently someone else picked up on it also. see anything wrong with this. - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.l2557&autorefresh=true&item=251114443318&nma=true&rt=nc&si=SfRRrnlTymjTWZR0mkbpvkVFZ2c%3D&sspagename=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc Who would have searched for a 1947 mercury dime LOL Also, since this is a post your latest acquisitions thread, I picked up a 1945-S Mercury NGC MS67 the other day. not the greatest pictures, but it looks like it could be nice.
Been looking for a nice AU58 Washington for quite a while now, found one a couple of weeks ago and just got around to imaging it.
I keep searching for the elusive 1945-P Mercury dime with FBL. I've found a few raw ones that come close, but no cigar. I look for old, partial collections with Uncs in the 1940's...things other people overlook.
That Jefferson is exactly what I need! As for the toning? I have had the same kind of toning from a proof set I cut out of.
So I'm kind of on a Mercury Dime buying binge on eBay right now. I just picked this up - the sellers photo. Something weird happened during the auction though. I was on my ipad and I bid, but was below the high bid with a few seconds left, so I went to bid the next highest amount, but I saw the auction tick down from 2 seconds left, to 1 second, to "ended", which is when I was able to press "confirm bid", and it went through. The end time of the auction was 18:18:52, and my final bid was 18:18:52. I have seen bids placed the last second before, but haven't seen one with 0 seconds left. Has that ever happened to anyone here? http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&_trksid=p4340.l2565&rt=nc&item=390440315357
