Alfonso XIII's father died before he was born. Therefore, Alfonso XIII became king of Spain the instant he was born. His mother handled the job until Alfonso was older. She put his likeness on the coins of Spain to introduce everyone to the king.

Here are some previous links describing Alfonso XII:

Always liked the Teutonic designs! Great pick-up!!!

    Here's my recent one - Mexico 1788 8 Reales in PCGS AU58

Great example of the reverse being better than obverse. I do enjoy the semi-PL obverse surfaces, though.

Here are a few quick shots before I get my photo set-up assembled back up:

a 2012 Canadian Tooth Fairy Quarter. No %$#%. A TOOTH FAIRY quarter. That must be a new low for the Canadian mint.

Newest coin arrived from Australia. Part of the 1998 set of historical 20th Century Australian coin designs.

The frosty devices are amazing, and the fields are as jet black as they come! :)

Today We Have Two 1937 Canadian Dimes as Our Newest Toys

    10c Canada 1937 MS64 PCGS Both Slabs-5051.jpg
    10c Canada 1937 Business Strike
    MS64 PCGS

First year of the George VI coinage, struck after the late-1936 abdication of Edward VIII to marry Wallis Simpson. The Bluenose reverse replaces the old Small Maple Leaves design.

Same issue in the Matte proof or Specimen format, a high-grade coin with subtle beauty. The Specimen dimes of this year were produced in Matte and Mirror finishes, struck to the extent of 1,295 pieces combined. Not 1,295,000 -- 1,295 coins! The Canadian Specimen coinage is highly underrated IMHO.

    Enjoy! :hail:

Just got home from work, and another coin came today. This one was purchased from a dealer in Germany. I spent 18 months looking for this coin in the grade/look/price range I wanted. Another one checked off of my list. :) I promise I'm not trying to hijack this thread with my newps...but sometimes what you're looking for you just find all at the same time. ;)

A very neat set , comes in a "sleeve" (red and yellow one with George VI on it), a nice picture card and the set itself in a little folder with info on the coins, if you see this cheaply get it!! It`s a very good set, nice layout with good coins :)
