PLEASE HELP!! I found a 1994 quarter with no back. It's in circulated condition and the back is a flat sheet of copper. This quarter is about half the width and half the weight. Anybody knOw what is wrong and if it is worth anything? Thanks.
for that you need help? Did you call 911? Here is the deal. it was likely either a magicians coin or to become a magicians coin OR, someone was bored and testing their new toy from Sears.
It sounds like someone ground the reverse off but we would need a good photo to be able to tell for sure.
how is it possbile for a coin to come out of the mint with a blank side. you have to have an hammer and an anvil.
Hey, take it easy on the newcomer, brklyn! Welcome to the neighborhood, Schamrock! In all likelihood, someone ground it down. Otherwise, you wouldn't see the copper. Even if it had been one that lost the clad layer after striking, you would still see a slight impression of the reverse. Chris
I did not say the coin left the Mint with a blank side. Read what I wrote. I said it sounds like someone ground off the reverse. Even with a blank reverse (e.g., a brockage) the coin should still have a raised rim. The fact that the reverse of the coin is flat (per the OP's description) makes me think the reverse was ground off.
