Well, I can't afford any gold, so for the time being I will remain in the dark on most of the commemoratives and stuff.
All I know is they died on the Trail of Tears, and they weren't allowed time to even bury them properly on the forced march. My great grandmother had personal effects from each of them, (they did not have photography), but my grandmother is unsure which of her siblings children have them now.
I dislike him too. Trail of Tears, fighting the Battle of New Orleans after the war was already over, and all the other junk. Abused his position as President.
As for the question in the OP, I second the nomination of Nancy Pelosi. In general, I'd like to see less politicians on coins and more truly selfless leaders. Be they scientists, explorers, astronauts, military leaders, etc., there are a lot of people out there who deserve a whole lot more recognition and respect than most politicians do.
This seems to be an odd thread with enormous potential to devolve into something completely mean spirited. Regardless, I will post in it only to point out that while it is true that Andrew Jackson led the combined US forces at the Battle of New Orleans after the Treaty of Ghent was signed, he did this without knowledge of the signing. Remember, this was January 8, 1815 and the treaty was signed in Europe on December 24, 1814. This is a mere 15-days prior and the news had to travel not only across the Atlantic by ship, but then had to make its way throughout the very rough territory of the US. Indeed, the British fleet that attacked New Orleans was also unaware of the signing of the treaty and word of the Congressional approval of the treaty did not reach New Orleans until late February, 1815, at a time where there were still clashes going on between the countries involved. Therefore, I don't believe Jackson's involvement in the Battle of New Orleans after the treaty was signed should be used as a negative point against him, as has apparently been done by at least one poster in this thread.
I would agree with that sir. I just have a very personal reason for detesting the man, one which I do not believe there are very many logical explanations short of intentional genocide. Sorry, I was not meaning to derail the thread, I was just responding to the OP's question.
Prince Charles...nuff said Oh boy, poor Canada, it's only a matter of time he graces all of their coins
Sorry, not meaning for it to be mean spirited. I was actually going to post "who would you like on a commem" but practically everyone has one already. I suppose I would say "Stu Ungar" or Harrold Robbins.
