What would you be willing to pay for something like this? I'm at a loss. :^)

I'm helping go through my Father in laws estate and he had a few coins, I've been buying everything that I can afford to and a few that I can't afford to also. I'm down to the odd lots and unusual stuff that we uncover, well my wife hands me this this afternoon and says do you want it and if not can you sell it for us?
Well it's kinda neat but what is it honestly worth? Is it fair to place a standard junk silver value on it since you can't actually get to the coins?
    1959 Franklin half
    1944 Washington quarter
    1959 Rosevelt dime
    1959 Jefferson nickle
    1960 D Lincoln cent

What would you pay for it? LoL.. 2012-07-22_19-42-57_533 (800x600).jpg
    It's a 2.5" cube, I would assume it's lucite.

It is worth less than the silver melt value, in my opinion. However, it is still cool.

it could be worth more than melt...but i saw a similar thing at my local coin shop except it was a morgan silver dollar (common date, etc) and he wanted melt for it. but id see what others say as well

Logically, I'd assume they aren't actually coins if it's 2.5^3. After all, if that were a half dollar in a 2.5^3, I'd assume it'd appear to take up 3/4 of the space, not 1/4.

They're real, the 1/2 is in the center and on an angle, once it's in your hand you can see the sizes a bit better, the encasement kinda throws off the perspective.

I'd pay no more than 90% of melt, and cut the cube apart.

I think the "coin value" is melt or a little less. However, it is a cool piece and that is worth something. So, I wouldn't be surprised to pay a little more than melt for the novelty.

They are worth melt, aproximately $16.00, if you can figure how to get them out of the lucite. Don't forget, you will need to discount them since no one pays melt when buying, so somewhere around $14-$15. Right now they are worth nothing since they are not even in a spendable form at face value. The lucite has to go.

I think you can get a little bit more than melt for this piece. Someone will pay a little extra for it just because it will look cool on their desk.

There is always that someone, but he has to find that person. This could mean eBay and PayPal fee's, plus his handling and his time. It is not anything I would do, even if I might double my money ($30). Just too much hassle. IMHO.

I disagree. This is worth more as is than broken apart. You are right...nobody buys at melt and it would take a lot of work (which means time and time=money) to remove them. This item is more valuable as a novelty item.

I'll bet if this is thrown up on eBay for 7 days it will sell for more than melt and fees.

I think you might get $12 for it. But unless a person just wants the novelty, the labor to get the coins is more than their value.

It is all in the way you write the ad.~~ " Wonderful Christmas or Birhtday gift for the Collector in your life! Protected with thick Acrylic It can be a paperweight or a wonderful addition to your Aquarium or even a Defensive weapon if you live in a "no carry" state. I have never seen another like this one! Bid high to be sure of it!"

It contains about $16.60 of silver and is a nice display piece. If it belonged to me, I would keep it if I couldn't get at least $25.

    I like that. Just imagine-

"Wonderful birthday gift for the person born in 1944, 1959 and 1960! You don't have a birth certificate? You don't know exactly how old you are? You don't need to...not with this block of coins!!!"
