Why? The grade is irrelevant. It is only worth melt value unless it grades MS-65 or higher (which it does not).

Your pictures give the coin an interesting look. The luster seems muted in a few areas, might have been a possible dipping in the past, I can't be for certain.

I believe the coin is a lower end uncirculated piece and is probably worth like Hobo said, melt value.

i got this guy from a near by coin store in the junk pile of silver dimes. this shiney one was calling my name. im trying to learn how to tell grade, not to grade coins myself but trying to learn how not to get ripped off by local coin shops. i have a guy around me who is ANA certified but i want to save some money up before i talk to him

It's not irrelevant at all. Coins like this are a great way to learn how to grade and just because the coin may only be worth melt doesn't mean it has no value to the owner.

That is true. A collector could put together an inexpensive grading set for close to melt value if he wanted to. My point was this particular coin is worth no more in MS-63 or MS-64 than it is in AU-55 or XF-40.

The guy is probably an ANA member, this is not any way of saying that he is an expert of any kind. It only means that he pays his dues to the ANA. I'm not saying that he is not an expert though, he very well may be.

That is absolutely true...but the OP never asked about value, the OP asked about the grade.

If we had better pictures that had closeup shots, might make it easier but with the given pictures, I'd say MS-64. I see a what appears to be a lot of dings on the obverse.

[SUP][/SUP]They made millions it's worth $2.50. It has to be proof 67+with deep cameo to be worth more then scrap sorry.

This coin could never be a proof 67+with deep cameo because it's not a proof. However, the bottom line is...this is a very common date and to be worth much above melt it needs to be a upper grade MS. This coin appears to be a nice MS though. It's hard to tell based on the photos...but it very well could be nice enough to carry a premium. I certainly won't condemn it as only being worth melt based on those photos.
