Both quite visible to the naked eye. (1995) left side you can see the edge reeding ran up onto the rim. (1998) just above the mint mark. I'm new to this error game so let me know what you all think.
I don't mean to rain on your parade but the errors are not really considered errors. There's not much there, I don't even think you could ask for a premium. Keep on looking though, you may find something else. With that said, the US Mint is not letting much out of the Mint anymore and fewer errors are minted anyways.
Thanks for the insight. Like I said I'm new to the error game so my future success depends on my lessons n failures now :smile Thanks again
Welcome to the CoinTalk forum. :welcome: The 1998 appears to have a contact mark above the mint mark. A contact mark is caused when coins contact each other & contact other items. IMO this is not an error. Check the edge of your 1995 & confirm that the reeding is complete & uniform all the way around. If the reeding is incomplete then please take a photo of it. I suspect the 1995 is also a normal coin (not an error). There are a couple books that describe the minting process & error coins that I always recommend. One is the Error Coin Encyclopedia by Margolis & Weinberg. The other is The Price Guide to Mint Errors by Alan Herbert. Please post here if you have an error coin question. You could also send me a PM through CoinTalk.
Oooops, I said welcome to CT & now I see that you joined way back in 2011. My bad. Keep looking for errors. Here is a quarter I got about a month ago.
Thanks collect89. I did just get the red book. Its limited on error info but helps me locate years of major error coins. I'm always on the look out but I will find one that is so well defined as yours
I found a Quarter with reeding potruding into the rim also. Take a look at what people had to say about mine. http://www.cointalk.com/t209583/ Also, I cannot tell from the photo you posted, but the same coin with the double reeding, I noticed a line going from the bottom of George Washington's ponytail to the rim of the coin. Is that line raised above the field? If it is, that may be a die crack.
Yes the reeding on mine looks pretty much the same as yours but just on the opposite side. And yes the pony tail line is raised. Its like extra metal on the coin. Ill have to try to get a better picture of it.
