Just caught on coinweek there will be a new coin reality show on the lines of pawn stars/pickers and the rest of the bunch. Will premiere in the fall on nat geo. http://www.coinweek.com/people-in-the-news/new-reality-tv-show-about-coins-to-premier/ Sure hope its good.
As soon as she said "roadshow" I lost any interest in watching. The gold buyer scammers have forever tainted the word roadshow. So, is this just another one of those companies looking to rip off old ladies and film it all for our entertainment? Guy
Hope this reality show is realistic. THIS BUSINESS IS NOT BBB ACCREDITED Alhambra Coin Center They do have some complaints and compliments on insiderpages that seem to be half and half. Mark my words, that one day there will be a reality show call "garbage men wars" where different independent garbage haulers fight over territories for customers to root through their garbage and dumpsters for unusual finds.
I'll watch it, but after watching all the home shopping coin shows, I don't know how much more numismatically-based entertainment I can stand! After I got home from the store the other day, I was wondering how long it would be before they come up with a show called "Supermarket Wars".
And I'm sure it will be 100% scripted (and salted) to insure viewer interest, just like the rest of the so-called "reality" shows.
To get this back on the coin theme, I hope that it is a popular show as so many more people will get interested in coins and this will help the hobby and give coin collecting more exposure.
Alhambra coin is one of the local shops in my area that I have dealt with for years. I can't say much about their outside buyers, but I have never had any problems with the people that work inside the B&M buying or selling. I'm sure like most/all reality TV it will be scripted, but I'm looking forward to it.
I don't know if I like this idea. Sure, I'd love to watch a program dedicated to coins, however, I believe that shows like Pawn Stars and American Pickers turn every idiot into a so-called expert. I am already very leary when I buy coins from a new person and I'm apprehensive that a series of this nature will bring even more shysters into the community than there already are.
Agreed. If this program, or others like it, were to become popular, it would likely drive prices higher. Good for sellers, but bad for buyers.
I can see it now! A line of 20 people standing behind you at the checkout with all of their ice cream and such melting while you try to negotiate your bill down from $387.43 to $125.00. Chris
