Grade Opinions: Toned 1961 Washington Quarter

    I have no idea on the grade, as I do not know Washington quarters, but what is Type B as compared to Type A(I presume)?

    Type B quarters come into play with 1956-64 Philadelphia minted quarters. Type A is the normal reverse...Type B are coin minted using the proof reverse die. There are several specific die markers that distinguish the Type B coins. Here is a link to a page with images that show the Type B die markers.

    Its a solid 63 coin. The hit on the check is too much to give it a higher grade. Nice coin.

    Maybe the lighting makes the hit on the cheek look worse than it really is. I'm thinking 63 but might go higher if I saw it in person. I'll bet the luster is outstanding.

    ~MS63. I wonder if the NGC/PCGS have a good technique / variable lighting to see-through toning, or they just wing it. Some bag mark scuffs / hits could definately be hidden by deep toning.
