Bought a couple of nice business strike Ike sets from my local B&M and thought this one looked kinda nice... I think it could possibly be a 65 certainly not worth slabbing but was just wanting some other opinions, it never hurts. I am always trying to improve and just want to say thank you for everyone here on CT for helping.
exceptional it even has rainbow rim toning from the packaging but did not try and capture it in these photos....
the only thing i can say negatively about the coin is it has a pretty weak strike, but not a bad one though.....
MS64 unless it gets a Details No Grade due to alterations on the surface. Overall, the coin looks pitted, almost as if it were sand blasted 30 years ago and allowed to tone over. The details appear soft in the hair on the obverse and on the Eagle's head on the reverse indicating either die deterioration or just a weak strike. There's a slicing hit from the temple across the ear which appears to have been softened. It's photographed well but I just do not think that the coin would grade well if even at all. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.
And its an opinion i most certainly respect, thank you! I noticed it has a pitted surface and a weak strike too but i was unsure thought it was from the weak strike but what you are saying most certainly makes sense.
I agree with your assessment. My first reaction to seeing the pictures was "my, those surfaces look odd".
+1, I was going to say that on the for the reverse. nice coin, from the photos is 65 plus, depending on color and luster maybe better.
I dont really know what to make of the coin like Lyds19 mentioned probably would be flagged for suspicion with the surface being pitted like that.
I don't believe it to be a problem free coin. The surfaces are indeed odd as Leadfoot and 19Lyds have pointed out. I'd be interested in seeing more photos that showcase the luster, if at all possible. I think the pictures you provided show the details very well, but they do not depict what the coin truthfully looks like in hand. Your pictures are good though, don't get me wrong.
I will post some more pics when the batteries for my camera are done charging. There is definitely something wrong with the surface.
