Hello everyone :) Today I found a quarter which appears the clad is extremely thin. The copper is reeded on the rim but the clad is not and the clad is slightly bigger than the copper. Under 20x magnification you can see the copper through the clad. With the naked eye it looks like two pieces put together, it takes magnification to see the copper in the rim. Any input on what a coin like this may be worth?

A good photo is needed for anyone to offer any substantive help.

Without a photo I can say that when the coin blank is punched out of the strip the clad layers and the copper core generally smear across the edge of the coin giving the illusion that a clad layer or the copper core is missing when in fact it is merely covered by the clad layer or copper core that smeared over it.

    25 cents.

from your description you have a quarter that has been soaking in acid. It attacks the copper more readily than the clad layers which is why they extend out past the copper. the fa the copper is still reeded also indicates that it was acid soaked. In order to be reeded the copper had to press against the collar which means that at one time it had to be out even with the clad layers. Since the acid attacks the high and low areas of the reeds equally the reeding remains visible even as the diameter of the copper is reduced by the acid.

Interesting. You interpreted "the clad is slightly bigger than the copper" to mean the diameter of the clad layers is greater than the diameter of the copper core while I interpreted it to mean the clad layer is thicker than the copper core. I wonder what she intended to say.

I only have a cell phone for photo's, and they were to blurry to have helped. I will find a good camera and pics will follow a.s.a.p. Conder101's answer makes sense to me, something I had not considered, thanks for the input. I guess it is worth at least 25 cents
