I lurk there every so often, but I don't do anything suspicious that David Hall might vote me off the island. Cointalk is my warm fuzzies, you guys are awesome!

I like and post on both forums. Each has their advantages. On this forum, I enjoy the more free discussions with less vitriol. On that forum, I enjoy the deeper skill levels on more esoteric topics. Both have value to me, and it seems silly and petty that some would thumb their noses at another forum.

So David Hall's coin selling and shilling activity--this would be a verboten subject over at the CU forums I would guess. Am I right? Oh and by the way, PCGS is okay with me. I use them liberally. I just have a problem when their titular head, who makes $500K a year in salary and bonus, has a side business where he floods the market with PCGS slabs, thus devaluing my slabs.

Care to elaborate a little bit more?
I've never read of anyone making this claim before. I'm not denying it to be so, I'm just curious.

Which claim? That he sells coins on the side? He does at davidhall.com. One of his lieutenants there, Van Simmons, is involved too. As for Hall's compensation package, I got that from CLCT's proxy.

    I know he sells coins.
But your claim on how the value of your slabs goes down due to his flooding of the market, is what I wanted elaboration on.

That's my opinion, and it's rooted in collectibles 101. The value of anything decreases when there's more of it. Ask the guy who ran Joe DiMaggio's collectibles business in the 90s before it tanked.

I agree with your tone, but disagree with the premise about PCGS slabs. What you say would be true IF the slab itself were the collectible. Since its only a guarantee of sorts of the collectible contained inside, I don't see how selling them should devalue other coins that are in PCGS slabs.

How much of your slabbed coins are in the common category?

The more common coin, in a particular grade makes it a common grade for that coin, and not much value would be attributed to it because you can find that coin in that grade most anywhere.

The only way your coins will devalue because of this would be due to overpopulation of an exact coin you have. There could be a thousand slabbed 1909 MS65 Indian Cent (for example) coins out there. But unless someone floods the market with say another five thousand with the exact grade. Your coin will still retain its value.

Well, in all honesty, sports collectibles is at a low point anyways. And Joe D. signed his named to just about anything short of Eva Gabor's undies. Or maybe he did.

As someone who does most of their surfing from a mobile device, I find the CU forum to be much faster than here.

As far as content, I like all of their show and tell, and the average poster seems to be more knowledgeable. But the elitist views over there along with the censorship I could do without.

Here at CT, everyone is welcome: from a beginner with their pocket change to the salty veterans. This board has something for everyone young or old, affluent or not.

David Hall Rare Coins does NOT submit coins to PCGS for grading.

    (Ref: http://forums.collectors.com/messageview.cfm?catid=26&threadid=142863 )

PCGS Graders are not allowed to deal in coins as it opens the door for impropriety and unscrupulous activities which have been "explored" by folks working for another TPG.

Before you make accusations, you should go directly to David Hall, whose email is all over the PCGS Forums.
Just search for @collectors.com in the BODY of posts from homerunhall and you'll find it. He responds to emails and is quite helpful but just like anybody else, won;t put up with childish baloney or harrassment.

    As for the CU Forums?

I like them but find the censorship to be a bit over bearing at times and a bit selective at times.

They don't appear to have a full time moderator such as what exists here and as such, lots of folks get banned over a misconception dealing with experience in how people actually post. The moderators on CT are very fair and are experienced folks with no preconceived notions or turf to defend. As such, their moderating is without bias and warnings/timeouts are issued when they are needed.

PCGS does not issue warnings. They just ban and then delete the thread which initiated the ban along with all non-threatening information within the post. Individual posts within a thread can be deleted as I've experienced that first hand but instead of "moderating" the thread, they just blow it away. This, I do not care for. I mean, if you're going to run a forum then run it! Probably the only aving grace is the relative value of coins within PCGS Plastic and the loyal following that they have. Yes, I'm one of them but when things get a bit sticky over there, I can always come over here with a self imposed time out.

Aside from the bannings and disappearing threads, I like CU. I like CT just as much and actually prefer the way that the forums are divided into CTChat, CT US Coins and CT Error forums. It makes it easy to move about freely with subject matter that I feel comfortable with.

What do I think? I think I've been banned twice.

I also think a lot of newbies who ask questions either get ignored or are given bad information. That was why I went back after my first banning, to try and help those people. But Willis says people like me who come back with an alt are trying to destroy the forum and they banned me again.

I managed to last for eight years until they started the "Thou shalt not criticize PCGS in any way shape or form" rule. Once they put that in place I lasted less than thirty minutes.

Of course there aren't. Don't believe me find one and post it over there. Disagreeing with the grade is a criticism of PCGS. You get banned, the thread gets deleted What overgraded coin? I don't see one.

Thanks for that information, it's good to know. It's a relief that he doesn't submit coins to his own company because that would be, well, icky. However as he markets PCGS slabs in his newsletter some people might be forgiven for thinking that he does so. And I still think it's weird that a guy making $500K a year has to push overpriced half dollars on the side--rather than, say, focusing 100% of his time on making PCGS even better. But that's just me.
