Have some non -U.S. coins with some not so attractive figures on them? Let's see them. Sorry Mr Franklin, you are not eligible. Here a couple of my choices for ugliest mugs. German Federal 2 Marks.
I do not own one, and never will, but I think the ugliest "mug" the US Mint has ever put out was the one on the 1995 Special Olympics Commemorative. Yes, that is a woman.
Holy smokes. I have seen this before. I actually wanted the thread to be for coins minted for circulation. But still...just wow.
Sorry, Greg, Just saw the non-US specification in the original post -- I missed the description because I my eyes were burning from the coin images.
That was the first president (1949-59) of this country. Most photos show Theodor Heuss in a frontal view, which may look better. From the side, well ... http://www.bundespraesident.de/Shar...ten/Altbundespräsidenten/Theodor-Heuss-06.jpg And the physicist Max Planck was probably not a "beauty" either. Both coins were circulation pieces, by the way, minted in more than one year. Christian
Another circulation coin from the Federal Republic statesmen series. This one shows Ludwig Erhard (first minister of economics 1949-63, then chancellor, ie. head of government 1963-66) without his famous cigars. Same eagle side as the Heuss coin. Christian
The portraits of Churchill and Maria Theresia I don't find ugly. But you know what they say about accounting for taste. Here is Margrethe II, the queen of Denmark, as she appeared on Danish circulation coins between 2001 and 2010. They now have a better portrait ... Christian
