Here is another quarter from my collection. This one is nicely toned a purple color on the obverse. Please give me your grade opinions.

Also, I'm trying to get my photos as good as I can...but the camera I have seems to be struggling. I'm going to pick up a nice DLSR before the end of the year (I hope)...which should help a lot.

First thing that popped into my mind was 64-65, but I am new to grading Quarters.

    Like the tone.

Thanks for the opinion. Being new to quarters...one thing you may not have noticed is this is a Type B quarter. Type B quarters are a fun little set.

I don't think you'll have a tough time getting a 65 for that one. The only thing distracting are the nicks on Washington's cheek

I'll wager AU-58 to MS-63 but not a nickel more.

Eh, I'm going to go with AU-55 to AU-58. The feathers on the eagle's chest are worn smooth and its left leg (from our perspective, right) is worn smooth as well. Otherwise, nice coin and has nice features overall.

A little more info on this piece...the toning on the reverse obscures the feathers on the eagle's chest. Examining the coin in hand, there appears to be no luster breaks. So, I would say this coin is definitely MS.

I was going to say I see no luster breaks. Have you tried to shoot the coin using axial lighting?

Washington quarters shoot ugly with regular shots.

With marks in the focal area, I can't go above MS63.

  17. Just saw this thread and first thing I noticed was that it was a Type B. Very nice coin! I will say MS 63. :smile TC

63 seems reasonable. I don't collect Washingtons--only have a few of them. It is a pretty coin, and has some contact marks so 63 makes sense--I do see it as an MS coin--no wear that shows in that picture.

Assuming that curlicue in George's hair is on the slab, I would think that would make a 64. If it is on the coin, it is 50/50.
