Last weekend i had bought some coins at melt to do some photography, one of which was a standing liberty quarter dollar. I just love the design of them so today i went and bought a dansco album and some coins to get started on it. Im wondering where's a good place online ( other than ebay ) for coins/ books for the slq. Thanks for the input, Tyler
Well, I use eBay, but some others like Littleton. Also be on the lookout for coin shows and shops near you.
Im just wondering, i've always heard littleton is way over priced, whats their prices like on standing liberty's?
There is a very informative book on the Standing Liberty Quarter by Cline. I have an older copy and it describes much about the SLQ coins including the percentages of each date that might be found with full heads etc. There is much to learn & understand about Standing Liberty Quarters if you intend to specialize in collecting them. I don't think you can collect much in the Standing Liberty Quarter series at melt. For coin storage, you might consider the books from Dansco. They make a blank album for holding 2x2 (12 coins per page). They also have a nice type set book (their 7070 album). You can order these Dansco coin albums from virtually every dealer & many Websites. They cost between $20 and $30 each I think.
I picked up a standing liberty album for 10 at my dealer. Im paying a little over melt for the commons, about 10 for better ones. We also deliver food there every day so i get a discount..
Wizard coin supply has a website that would be a very good place to buy a book on SLQ's or other coins of interest. Before you buy more coins, I would suggest you read up on grading of them and how to detect cleaning. This series is a tricky one with certain areas that are prone to wear. If you do not have the knowledge, a dealer could easily sell you a coin as Mint State that is truly AU. At first I would suggest going with coins that are graded until you feel comfortable. If you have a local show, go look at as many coins as you can and ask questions. Buy a 5x or 6x magnifying glass and compare coins and grades. You will get the hang of it! Most importantly, have fun!
