Well, I sent off another batch of 9 coins when I was home on leave. The results this time are not that great. I really need to work on my seated liberty grading skills....

I just cut and pasted from the email I got from CAC. The large cent, was kind of a guess on my part as I have not seen to many with a CAC sticker, I was unsure how it would do. I was really surprised about the results of the seated coins though... I will post pictures in a few minutes.

    These did not pass:

I think this is a really nice coin, and I'm kind of stumped why it did not sticker, any input would be appreciated.

Could be, after looking at the blown up picture more, I am thinking maybe they just thought it was a possible AU55 or just barely an AU58...

I would also like to add:

I am still very pleased with the communication, service, and the turnaround time of CAC. Truly a top notch firm!

It is a gorgeous piece and I'd go with '58. No way that's a '55......

The coin also has some nice clash marks, but neither would have had an effect on certification.

I think the 1854 has some mild PVC damage, not sure on the other as toning looks original.

I thought CAC gave information on why they did not receive a sticker. Not sure since I have never really submitted a coin.

Sometimes they do, I had one coin on my first shipment that a sticker with PVC written on it. I believe you can also ask, but I have not done so yet.

Thanks. One of these days I might get around to submitting a few.

The 1837 RE half dollar looks like a nice coin and I do not think the black spot on the reverse hurt its evaluation. Rather, I think it is simply overgraded as an EF45. The 1854 w/Arrows half dollar looks like it might have PVC residue on the reverse below the talons. If not, then I would imagine that CAC did not like the dipped out surfaces of the coin. It has definitely been dipped, at least once, and CAC will sticker dipped coins, but if the luster is impaired from the dipping then the AU58 grade is a stretch.

Thanks for the comments, your the second one to think that the 1854 might have some PVC damage, could anyone take the time to educate me on that? Is it the light white-ish haze? I also agree that the luster is not what I would like as well.

The images infer that there is a milky patch beneath the talons. This patch does not need to be opaque, rather, it could simply show up as a light, chalky-white or light blue-green color when the coin is turned under a light. This can be evidence of previous, light, PVC damage that was dipped off, but not completely rinsed properly. The coin could still grade in a problem-free holder, but is not as liquid as perhaps otherwise hoped.

Very nice coins! You did well for your first submission. :thumb:

So did you learn from those that did not pass? I like the 3 cent piece, but that black spot looks very active and may be corroding the coin. I would send it to whoever holdered it to try and get it off.

I have learned some, but the real education will come when I get home and can spend some more time studying the coins that I submitted. Both submissions have been sent out after I have departed the states and when the return are taken to the SDB. So, I have not had a lot of time to really inspect them.
