Morgandude11 As long as it's Silver, I'm listening

Looks like a Chinese fake to me. Very crudely struck. Look at the position of the eagle on the reverse, and the lettering.

OK so lets say it real, what would you think its worth

It looks fake to me as well. If it were real the letter could go missing due to being struck through grease, which usually doesn't carry a premium.

ITS AS REAL AS YOU ARE, but whats funny is nothing carries a premium around here...lol.. I wonder why it could be the only coin with that error and it still would not be worth much? Have you ever asked yourself that? Could it be most everyone on here is broke besides me and a few others

Could you explain how that could happen on a coin during the minting process? And only 1 at that?

Raised areas on a coin are recessed areas on a die... if a letter (or any other device) gets filled with grease or debris, it will be a blank area on the coin itself. This is not considered a "valuable" error, even if it's the only one.

If it carried a premium, you would be informed of such. Please try and believe these guys when they tell you something... Morgandude knows what he is talking about. Even a coin as common as a '21 Morgan has been heavily counterfeited by our Chinese friends.

I understand that ;) I was asking the OP why his coin is special.

I should have known, lol. So let this be a lesson for the OP.

Because struck through grease coins are very common and only when there are a lot (like 80%) of the details missing does it get any sort of premium. Same with die cracks. If you search through rolls you'll find hundreds over the course of a year. And unless it's dramatic, like a shattered die coin with multiple die cracks, does it get a premium.

A lot of novice collectors get excited about minor misaligned die coins, minor die cracks, minor struck through grease/debris coins, coins with die deterioration etc. because they don't realize how common they are.

Go through the archives here and on other sites and you'll see the same questions being asked almost weekly (or in the case of doubled dies-daily) and you'll realize why you'll see "PMD" or "not an error" or "not collectible" being given as an answer so often.

A lot of collectors on this (and other sites) have been examining coins for decades and understand the minting process intimately so they can state immediately whether the coin is an error or variety or not.

Rare errors have high values because they are rare and not easily found.

If you want to see an error coin that makes collectors go "WOW!" , check out this thread. You may never see one of these again in your lifetime:

This coin is definitely genuine. No doubts there. As the others have stated the error is cool... But among the more common errors and brings a small premium.

    A. You asked, he answered
    B. No one here knows you from a hole in the ground. You posted a query about a coin and were unhappy with the answers from experienced collectors (which cost you nothing, btw).
    C. As Morgandude11 said, it might be a fake and if it is whatever "error" it has means absolutely nothing.

It doesn't look fake to me. The knot in the bow lines up between the 3rd & 4th tailfeathers as it should.

It isn't uncommon to see faint traces of a letter obliterated by a grease-filled die. Take a look at this photo I borrowed from a 1921 Philly on the VW listings.

I'm sorry but that is not correct. This is definitely an error... It would be almost impossibile to "file down" a single letter without disturbing the rim. It's a strike through.
