I always have a soft spot for the 1853 arrows/rays design. Nice one! So as much as I would like to say I bought the MS64 1795 Half Dime that I got to hold, I must settle for something a little less extreme. 1911 Barber Half - NGC MS63. Luster out the wazoo!!! This also finishes off my 20th century type set. With this coin, it brings it up to #36 in the registry. Some coins will eventually be upgraded, but I'm happy for now. If interested, you can see my type set here: http://coins.www.collectors-society.com/registry/coins/SetGallery.aspx?PeopleSetID=56634 And here's the coin:
Nice stuff everyone! Last Saturday I bought a relatively low mintage 1809 large cent in well worn condition. I also got a Roman Trajan denarius for $3. I really like it even though it's battered. It is incredible to imagine what the coin has seen in the past 1900ish years! From Rome to the Crusades to the Dark Ages to the Renaissance to the Industrial Revolution to today! Imagine what it will see when we are all gone...
Hello- I just received this 1873 half dime in the mail and am very pleased. I like the "character" it has. Thanks for checking it out! -L
Just got back from the coin show in Brunswick, Maine. Very nice show. I took a long time picking out some washingtons, and by the time I got done I ended up having a duplicate, but it was only ~$6 so no big deal. I just put them into the album. Here is a quick snapshot, (by no means a good photo), but you get the idea. The 1957 MS66 I got for around $44. I've been try to stick with MS63-64 to keep prices way down, but this coin is AMAZING in hand. Strike / relief is really great compared to the other 50 or so silver washingtons I was pouring over. All total I now have 26 silver washington holes filled, and an additional 3 duplicate date/MM. Also, by boss came along for about 20 minutes and he bought this fo me: Good time all around.
Rev, isn't that nickel right here? http://www.ebay.com/itm/190701932850?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2648#ht_754wt_1265 I've been watching it.
Just won a bid from Bahabully on eBay for a nice 1983 Proof toned nickel, 1951 Toned silver dime, 1957 toned silver dime all at a winning bid of .01 cents each and a 2.95 shipping price. Will post picture when I am back home.
got this for 4 dollars which i dont think is too bad. i dont like the fact that someone put it into a vice and smashed it but i do rather enjoy seeing the cud on the reverse
1909 Matte Proof Lincoln (PCGS PR64RB). I call this a "66 coin in 64 clothing". This coin just has monster "PR66-like" eye appeal. There are only 460 PCGS-slabbed 1909 Matte Proof Lincolns in existence, and this is one of the nicer looking examples (IMHO), in spite of the relatively low grade. The light scratches in front of Lincoln on the obverse are from die polishing, which used to be done with wire brushes at the U.S. Mint. The early die state was smooth, and when the U.S.Mint employees went to polish the dies mid-year, the workman polished the lines right into the die itself with a wire brush. So when the coin is stamped, the incused "digs" in the upper die show up as raised lines on the obverse of the coin itself. The photo was nailed by C.T. member robec.
