Hey guys, I was wondering how much you guys sell/buy your silver for. I always thought melt value was fair but I just took a glance at ebay and omg, people pay some redic prices for silver. Of course you have to factor in various fees to ebay/paypal, which is why I just sell here on our For Sale forum. Below is current melt value of the silver coins. I just had a transaction today with a colleague - he initially asked for $70 but eventually gave me more than 11% discount. I paid $61 for 2 walking liberty, 2 Franklin, and 3 Kennedy (63 n 2x64). Of course, it was cash transaction.So, being a good colleague actually pays off ;-)
It's official, I'm blond tonight! They are all 64! The 63 was Franklins. I guess I need my sleep. The pics come tomorrow morning - good night
Good deals are out there. To me its all a numbers game... the more you're out there looking, sooner or later you'll find a deal. I bought $50.00 plus face of WLH, and Barbers and some washington quarters for what averaged $16.25 x face. When at the time it was hovering clost to 20x. Not a steal, but a good deal at that. My local coin guy will generally always sell it to me for melt or .50x over. Depending of what he's got. So basically just keep you're eyes open, and again the best way to score a deal is when you have a pocket full of cash, and you ask "how much for all of it?" That works the best for me.
My colleague told me to try 'cash for gold' kinda shops - he said i may find some silver coins too - but never knew and never thought of it
I like buying silver for under melt and then not selling, and with foreign silver it's often possible. Just wait for the right buys.
Of course I like paying melt or below and the way those auctions go on ebay is insane at times. Of course if you stay on there a bit you can get some good deals on junk silver. What's funny is the idiots who try to sell a 1 peso Morelos that only has 10% silver as a regular 90% coin. I don't see it as much as I used to but it still goes on. Yeah, if you stay on your toes and, oh forget it. I was just about to give away an ancient ebay secret but I need to keep that to myself. After all, you guys are bidding against me. You keep your secrets and I'll keep mine.
Ok, I am awake now. Actually I paid 62 dollars for these 7 coins. They are: 1. 1943 walking liberty - upper left - W mintmark 2. 1945 walking liberty - upper right - W mintmark 3. 1952 franklin - middle left - no mintmark 4. 1954 franklin - middle middle - D mintmark 5. 1963 franklin - middle right - D mintmark 6. 1963 franklin - lower right - D mintmark 7. 1963 ... oops ... 1964 kennedy ;-) - no mint mark The weird thing is that coin #1 weighs only 12.1 gram ... too worn off? opinion, experts?
I'm no expert, but I think the "W" you see on the Walking Liberties is the designer's initial. The mint mark is on the reverse near the rim at about 7 oclock.
I pay 5% under melt and sell for 5% over melt. Most of my local competition (when I'm home) pay's about 30% under melt and sell for around 10-15% over melt.
Oops, I am being blond again! In that case, there is no mintmark on both my walking liberty coins ....
