Has anyone had any luck buying US coins from other countries? I often see US coins selling for a fraction of the cost, in countries such as Belgium, Peru, etc.
Remembers lots of fakes out there, and shipping can cost quite a bit more. I've bought foreign coins from a seller in Ireland numerous times, never had a problem.
I have. My recommendation is that you will want to establish some sort of rapport with the dealer before diving in. For example, I have purchased specimens from dealers in the U.K., Argentina, Netherlands, France, and Chile. Mind you, most of these were American emissions with some sort of exonomia or early copper connection (counterstamps, blacksmiths, colonials, evasions, merchants, expositions, CWTs, etc.) I would NOT recommend buying them off ebay unless you already know the dealer. And I would absolutely recommend staying away from emissions like Trade Dollars. Just my two cents.
I have bought coins online from dealers here in Europe, but also from Canada and the US. No problem so far. Different languages may or may not be an issue. But keep in mind that, as dsmith23 mentioned, shipping can be expensive ... and if customs gets involved, possibly time consuming. Christian
