The thing is, sure, the vending machines and coin counters don't accept them. But almost all businesses accept them. And even most banks hand them out, and accept them. A loonie or twoonie will be suspect (due to our paper system), but small Canadian change is accepted around here just as US change is (so long as it's pieced in with US change).
First Reject Finds! I ended up dumping at a penny arcade a few towns away yesterday. For fun I decided to toss a clad Canadian quarter in just to see if it would kick out of the reject tube and maybe something else that might have been left behind. The angle of that tube is almost horizontal, so I really had to get my finger far behind and slide it down to the tray. I got it back, along with an '05 Alberta Canada commem quarter and a 79-S proof SBA Type I!
Got a handful of Canadian from the magnet while dumping and my 4th 1943 steel wheat penny. It's got some crap on it but the details are still real nice. HOTN
Today I got a 10 haliers Slovakia coin. Looked it up and their government has been taking them out of circulation.
Another Roosie & '44 quarter, 2x SBA plus other assorted foreign coins, including a swiss 1/2 franc & 2x 10 Rouble.
Since the coin machines in my state don't reject silver, and Inq find so many Quarters from being rejected, silver Q's must be making it back into boxes in my state. Even if I got 1 silver from every $1000 searched it would be better than halves right now. I might give it a shot. HOTN
Found a dateless standing Liberty quarter in my Credit Union's machine the other day when I check the reject slot prior to putting my cents and nickels into it. I find lots of Canadian and foreign, sometimes even 2 Euro coins - but 80+ year old quarter trumps them all. No pics, my camera died and the iPod images are invalid for some reason.
Not to discourage you, but my current records for the year on quarters from rolls are as follows: Rolls searched: 1431 Silver quarters found: 11 That's 0.38 quarters per box, or about 1 every 3 boxes... although about half of those 11 were from CWRs
