Recently I noticed that my main collection was drifting towards currency and I hadn't been looking at coins much so I decided I needed a bit more focus in this area. I have started a type collection but don't want it to take over so below is the list I created. (can't guarentee that there aren't typos)

My question is... Am I missing any major types? I am not getting as specific as "With or without arrows", "with or without rays", "cents/no cents". Just the major changes to the front/obverse of the coin. If you were to add a few coins to the set what would be the most glaring omission?
    Thanks.

How about the Presidential Dollar 2007-

The issue I had with that is that every single one has a different face, do I pick one or include them all? Also the Jefferson nickels, different faces for different years (I think I would need three different?)

    You forgot the gold.

how about the 1943 steel cent? The design didn't change but the look sure did.

If I add the gold I think I would have to stop collecting, that isn't going to happen. I agree that the steel cents are a big change (just not to the design) I already have 3 so it wouldn't be a big issue to add one.

That is the same type of set im doing via the PCGS Registry. Personally I would skip the Gobrecht Dollar and add the 1792 Half Disme instead. Both are really patterns though.

I haven't collected dollar coins at all, so after reading about the Gobrecht (I first laughed) and then removed it from the list. There are enough empty spaces currently that I don't need to add another that will never be filled.
    Thanks.

I decided to start out with the coins listed in the Dansco 7070 set and then work backwards if I have the money. One question I have is regarding Draped Bust coins. I understand why the half cent draped bust is included (stated in the 1800's). I understand why the Draped bust half dime, dime, quarter... are not in the set (started in the 1700's).

So out of curiosity, why is the Draped Bust Cent included? 1796-1807

    I agree.
In my opinion coins like POTUS dollars and state quarters have no place in a 'type' set, mainly because every one is different, and because you can't fairly represent the whole series with just one. Maybe it's just me, but these coins, along with the 2009 cents, and even the Lewis & Clark nickels, don't belong in a type set. The only coin that will represent them well enough by itself is the base coin, like Washington quarter or Jeff nickel. It's not perfect, but to go further just clouds a type set.

    What about Bicentennials?
And I think if you are including permanent Obverse changes (like the 2006-date nickels), then at least one state/ATB quarter should be included, since the obverse definitely looks different.
