Let's see if we have any VAMpires here. I'll post a photo, giving you the date/mm, and see if you can identify the VAM.

Here is the first, an 1878-CC.......click on the photo to enlarge it.

    Chris,

That would be a VAM 9.

Can we see the whole reverse.

    Righto!

Unfortunately, I don't have any images of the whole coin. I'm still setting things up at my new residence, and I haven't yet got the camera equipment in place. What would you like to know about it?

Well, Mike didn't have any trouble with that one. Let's see if he can get this one.

    It's an 1884-CC......

Vam 14.5? Maybe, just a guess

Well, I am not certain, VAMs 14.5 and 7 share the same reverse with the die gouge, but I am going with VAM 7 for two reasons. The first is it looks to me like 14.5 picked up another die marker along the way. There appears to be a small bump (die recess) just to the left of the lower part of the A on 14.5 that does not appear on you special.

The second reason is just elimination. VAM 14.5 is so rare there is only one known MS specimen. The coin in the post does not appear to be that 1 known specimen, so by eliminating that 1 coin you can make a leap and say it is not 14.5 so it is a VAM 7

Right you are, Mike! Good process of elimination. I wish I had a 14.5 in MS!

Okay, guys! Try this on for size. It's another 1884-CC........
