I searched for about 6 years before finding this one, NGC MS67. (Photos courtesy of Mark Feld Rare Coins.)

Your coin appears to be a 1926-S with Full Fingers as described in post #3 of this thread.

I remember the first time I saw this toning pattern. I did not know that it was (1) typical and (2) caused by the original packaging that housed some of the classic commemerative coins. Thanks for posting it here jello.

I’ve read that somewhere between 40 and 103 Isabella proof quarters were struck.
The 400th, 1,492nd and 1,892nd coins were all struck proofs. These special coins were documented by the Mint and sent to the Board of Lady Managers in Chicago. The 400th coin was symbolic of the years between the discovery of the new world (1492) and the anniversary year (1892). Hence, the 400th, 1492nd, and 1892nd coins were deemed special.

My new Isabella quarter is proof-like and is difficult to photograph (Like taking a picture of a mirror). :rollling:

Just for fun=> This photo was shot using a cylindrical light-diffuser with no axial lighting on the highly-reflective proof-like surfaces.

I’ve also read that many proof-like early business strikes are mistaken for genuine proofs.
In addition to wire rims, square edges and proof-like surfaces, the proofs must show evidence of being struck two or more times in the coining press. Proof coins must have a proof surface in the triangle-shaped field in front of the lady’s left hand. I can’t see any evidence of two strikes on my coin. All I see are proof-like fields and very sharp rim details.

This photo was shot through the 2x2 Mylar windows with normal indoor Tungsten lighting.

Did I get a business strike or a proof or a fake?

I suppose I’ll have to send it to NGC for an in-hand opinion. I got it on the cheap so for now I can dream that it is a proof.

This photo was taken outdoors under a shady tree. :)

The Columbian that I previously posted with all the rainbow toning doesn't match ANY of the other commemoratives in my collection. This last weekend, I picked-up this nice 1892 Columbian. It has creamy surfaces and nice toning. There are some bag marks. I'd give it a MS63.5

    Thanks for letting me share.

    Very nice Oregon Trail...:thumb:

I've never looked for 6 years but I have looked 3 years for a couple of coins to come along. It was worth the wait to me as I'm sure it was to you.

Collect89: For the benefit of others who may not know, that type of toning is usually referred to as "tab toning".

ChiefBS: Thank you for the compliment. I remember the first time I tried to acquire the Oregon Trail. There used to be a site called Liberty Numismatics that had all kinds of early commems and related exonimia. They had just listed a 1939 P-D-S set in the original display card. All three had the same type of tab toning similar to the coin above. I called Liberty Numismatics immediately since they didn't take orders online. I don't think more than one minute had passed since it had been listed when I got through, and it had already sold. Dang, they were beauties!

I was born & raised in California but I don't have that commemorative (yet). The bear side of your coin is ultra cool looking. It should be mounted in the slad with the bear side up. :)

    The Battle of Antietam

It's really fun to find a coin you have not seen for a long time. It's like Christmas in July (June 29th in this case). :)

The Battle of Antietam was the first major battle in the American Civil War to take place on Union soil. According to Wikipedia, it was the bloodiest single-day battle in American history, with about 23,000 casualties on both sides.

Read Bernard Cornwells book 'The Bloody Ground' to get a good feel for what happened on that day. If not for Andy Jackson, the South would have lost their bacon......

I just posted this one in the Coin Chat section to guess the grade. I only have about 10 different commemorative half dollars and this Hawaii coin just spoke to me.
