I have tried to post the larger images three times - I thought they were up - but - I guess not. FYI - the bands on the 19-D are 99.99% FB !!
Why MS-64 Well 1, could be toning Pcgs at times do give high grades toned coins + a free submission for joining Pcgs 2, could be what was paid for in grading if you do not pay for details FB could be not listed 3.Who had it graded 1st HA, Stacks name helps grade. Or Bad mood too.
I like the top one. When the curls in the hair on the top of profile are struck well, I get very interest in those Mercs. I consider that a better marker than the split bands.
I think they both misgraded that coin. And if you picked it up for like 40 bucks, it was a great steal. Yo should remove the CAC sticker and join the Movement! Ruben
What am I talking about? That is a 1919-D. If you got it for $40 dollars it was indeed a steal. Check this one out.. http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=1169&lotNo=9150#Photo
If you have to ask why that coin is an MS66, we are going to have to send you back to grading school. Based solely on the photo, I would have said MS67. Here look again! Unless you were implying that the coin is undergraded in which case, I agree with you!
That. Is the most beautiful Merc I have ever seen. Is it truly as blue as shown? I also love the "Copper Wire" Toning on it.
Hello I don't really know how to grade coins, but I have a trained eye for detail in artistic objects of a variety of types. When I open the red book and compare it with my experiences, I would think it a MS68. The hair detail and the wings are magnificent. The letters are crisp and square. The rim is deep and square on both sides of the coin and the metal flowed over the dies evenly on both sides and top and bottom. The banding over the reeds is dimensional. The fields are reflective, and I see almost no marks. There is that little surface scratch on the right of the reverse, mostly, and maybe some surface deformity near the neck to the left of Liberty.. Is that enough to set it back to a 66? Mandy
:thumb:Pcgs has been known to under grade any toned coin. Why maybe it take a few more seconds to grade it right.
Lee that what meant Pcgs is well known for under grading a toned coin unless H.A,etc submitted the coin J Q Public gets a lower grade.
