Is this a joke?

Either this guy cleans his own coins, or bought a bunch of whizzed ones. However he makes no mention of them being cleaned, but it's rather obvious.

Since all of his coins look like a recent cleaning, it leads me to think he is doing this him/herself.

Here are some coins he/she/that were ruined.

    I
    sent the seller a message:

"I hope you are not cleaning all of the brightly buffed coins you have for sale on eBay. I hope you know this, but cleaning a coin ruins its value. I have seen many coins you sold that would of been worth 2-5 times as much, had they not been cleaned."

If the seller is doing the cleaning himself, perhaps I can save some historic coins from being ruined.

Or they might already be counterfeit, so it wouldn't matter *shrug*

Is this a joke, seriously? It looks as if all the guy sells coins only, so do you really think your words will bring on some sort of an epiphany? So much more could be done with your free time.

My guess is that they buy problem coins at a discount and sets the starting prices at what he paid. If two people bid, he made a profit. At least the images are a descent quality so the buyer knows what they are getting. The seller is not misrepresenting anything.

I'm not saying that the seller is misrepresenting anything. However if they are cleaned, he should say so. Now if he said they were problem free, that would be misrepresenting.

I don't really have an issue with that.

The purpose of this thread was to ask for one's opinion. If the seller is re-selling cleaned coins, or doing the cleaning him or herself.

However all of these coins look like they were very recently clean. Silver does not stay shiny that long, it starts to dull a bit.

He may be a legitimate dealer who pawn off the junk that comes across his desk on eBay. I worked for a dealer for awhile, you would be shocked by how many people cleaned or polished their coins before they came in to sell them. Most dealers do not want cleaned coin in their store inventory, so they will either pass on the coins, buy them at scrap value or sell them off on eBay. I agree that ethically the seller should mention that the coins have been cleaned, but it is really hard to fault them for not doing so.

If you were selling a car would you say that "I wait too long to change the oil, the tires need replacing, the paint job looks bad without a nice coat of wax, my long hair dog goes everywhere with me"? Or would you try to get the most that you could for the car. It is really the same thing, as much as it hurts to admit it.

I was looking at the completed sales for the 2nd link. Would an 1885 Morgan in perfect condition sell for $33? He sold two Indian Head cents that looked either BU or fake, not a mark on them, for $11 and $15. Many items only had 1 bid. 1957D Washington, slabbed, MS70, $9.

I don't buy silver on eBay, but I do watch the auctions a lot. Silver, even "junk" silver, is selling for fair prices. His coins look too good and the prices are too low. Something is off.

Neither IHC is anywhere even close to BU.. both have plenty of clear marks, and are problem coins. In no way do his coins (generally speaking) look good and the only thing that is off are the coins themselves.
