I have a Kennedy Half Dollar that is missing the 4th digit of the year. It simply says 197. It also does not have a visible mint marking. Could this be something extremely rare or just an old slug?

    Welcome to the forum rider.
A picture would be nice, but sounds like struck thru grease.

It would be nice to see a pic, but it's not a slug. Slugs are worthless... your coin is worth fifty cents. Probably a grease filled die, and halves minted in Philly during the 1970's had no mint mark.

Thanks for the welcome. :) I don't know why I didn't think to include a picture initially

Looks like PMD, wiping out the last digit and damaging the rim.
