I bought this recently for $12. I think I got a steal. It has what I think is post-mint damage on the obverse and reverse. I was wondering if I sent it in to be graded if they would "body-bag" it or if sent to NGC, would it get one of their "details" holder. Also what is it worth and what is the grade with the damage.
    Thanks, any help would be great. 1901-1.JPG 1901-2.JPG 1901-3.JPG 1901-4.JPG 1901-5.JPG

For sure would come back in a body-bag or get Details grade.

Makes my stomach hurt, but I don't think they would grade it.

It would be body bagged (genuine/details slab) for sure. Too bad, it would be a beautiful coin otherwise.

Its nice but with that much damage, I can't imagine it slabbed at all.

    So what is it worth?

Problem coins are really hard to price...in this case, I think the damage really hurts eye appeal. I personally wouldn't buy it at any price, but my guess is 10-15% of the price of an undamaged piece (my coin references are all packed away as I am in the middle of moving so I can't look up the value).

Basically since there isn't really a market for problem coins, it is worth what somebody is willing to pay. My price I would put on it is at $18 and no higher.

Probably worth about what you paid for it.

ugh, thats almost as bad as murder! Dont you just wanna spank little Jimmy's hand for angsting us this way?!?

According to ngc, a 1901 red/brown ms65 is worth about $219. And Ive seen their values sell at almost a 50% discount and sometimes at a premium.
