In hand it is simply gorgeous, remember the pics are blown up, i think it could have a slight chance of squeezing into a 66 but of course im biased. Happy either way even a raw ms65 is a good buy at $4....:hail:
I agree with that too matthew, it really is nice and has a real chance at 66. I only held it back to the strike being kind of weak in places.
It is a great looking coin. I Just picked up a short set of silver Ikes for not too much. Think some are worth a slab.
Nice coin no matter what the grade. Great eye appeal. Strike is so so, but the hits might prevent a 66. Luster is fabulous.
They are not hits, its called annealing from the pressure being set low. If you look at them with a loupe there is no reeding in them which would be from contact with another coin remember they were not for circulation and i plucked it right out of the packaging. Not saying it wouldnt effect the grade all the same just thought i would throw that out there.
It is top-notch but hard to tell from a picture. I'd say MS-65 unless the luster is as deep and broad as it appears in the picture then 66 isn't out of the picture. I think the strike might hold it back. The Philly often has strike weakness and this one is hardly especially weak.
64- pretty harsh assessment . I have been picking up ms65's and this one seems to me to have fewer marks than most 65's
then I'd re-examine the others. The OPs coin doesn't have any MAJOR marks, but it has small nicks EVERYWHERE!. In the devices on Ike, Look at the letters in Liberty for example. The "B" has a large hit and the "T" has too many dings to count. In fact, all of the letters in Liberty have hits on them. On Ike the face is nice and clean as you would expect on a gem and there are tiny marks on the cheeck which could even be flaws that didn't strike out of the planchet, but look at the back of Ike's head. Lots of dings. Too many marks IMHO for a gem grade. Nice coin, I say 64. Upper-end 64, but a 64.
