Anonymous (1028-1034 AD), bronze anonymous follis, class B Obverse: Bust of Christ facing, wearing numbus and holding Book of Gospels, legend IC XC (Greek denoting Jesus Christ) Reverse: Cross on three steps, legend IS XS BASILE BASILE ("Jesus Christ, King of Kings") in three lines GORDIAN III MOESIA SUPERIOR, VIMINACIUM, Æ 29, Rev. P M S COL VIM, Moesia standing left between bull and lion. AN·I (= A.D. 239/240) in exergue *Alexius I, 1081-1118 anonymous Class K. Sear 1901. 1908-S Indian cent Anacs graded this ms-63 it's a nice cheap example for the last type Canadian large cent. Nicely toned 1938-D buffalo nickel* I traded this coin but I wish I didn't this is my favorite type for the Canadian silver dime. An especially nice example that Anacs gave a ms63 grade. My favorite quarter from my favorite us type set. I like the fact this saw circulation and still looks good. I like the die work and color of this green Constantine vows in wreath reverse.
I like the first byzantine & I dont collect them no know much about them. Have you posted that Gordian III before? Looks familiar, eitherway nice. Canadian penny is nice. I couldnt part with that canadian dime. Mine are all VG or so grade :/ I have a barber quarter at nearly the same grade, maybe a hair better. Some folks dont like Barbers but I do. If only I can get a barber half in a nice AU grade instead of my VF35 by old anacs, lol. Hard to see the green on the constantine.
I might of posted the Gordon 3 before. Here are some more of my favorite coins. I like the green color of this Constantine coin its not the best example of this coin but I still like the feel of it. I like the reverse details and color of this*theodosius I My favorite Morgan dollar, this coin has a golden glow to it. I gave it to my daughter. NGC gave it a 64. *My daughter thought is was made of gold. Another nice Canadian AU large cent. My favorite Aurelian shows some circulation but looks so lifelike. There is a worn mint mark.* My rare constantine find from a metal detectors coins. It's in bad shape but it's mine!
I bought this cent for $35 as cleaned pcgs said ms63. I found this in a roll of cents from the bank. It's my only euro coin. This has some slight doubling in the date. Mostly in the 5. Some errors This is a silver Philip the Arab coin I wish I still had. I liked the toning on it. It was so much better in hand. My favorite design on a us coin.
Cool stuff. Nice to see someone sharing some ancients, been pretty dry around here lately regarding them Whats the beat up constantine suppose to be?
I can't tell much by the photo, but the 11-D quarter is a better date. And it looks in the high VF range! Possibly XF!
I just have an F15 1859 indian, its a type I wanna upgrade higher eventually, same with the large cent, mines an 1850, in the VF range. Last coin, the feuchtwanger cent, I always liked the design of too. Darn thing is expensive in decent grades though. Plus there is alot of die varieties that some seem to specialize on.
This philip II macedon was one of my best Greek coins but the BD did it in so I ended up selling it cheap. I still like the picture and it's a good example of what BD can do to a coin. Barbarous coins where made in times of coin shortages here is a Good example of one although it's not as crude as some can get.
The Constantine in rough shape is a barbarous RIC VII 19 that I purchased with 41 other coins from a UK metal detector. This was found in North Yorkshire UK. CONSTANTINE I. 307-337 AD. Æ Follis (13mm 0.9gms). Constantinople mint. CONSTANTI-NVS MAX AVG, laureate head right / SPES PVBLIC across field, labarum, with three medallions on drapery and crowned by a christogram, spearing serpent. RIC VII 19.
Ah ok, I know what a barbarous but I dont own any. Never had a desire to own one at this time. Shame about the greek with BD, looked nice. I had a Valerian I Tetradrachm I liked but it was slowly getting BD and since I was a newb to ancients at the time I unloaded it quickly, at a loss no less. After that I have pretty much built my set in nearly all ARs. I own several LRBs but I make sure they are BD free before I buy them :/
Ah nice, one of our posters pretty much specalizes in Tetradrachmai. This is his gallery, http://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/index.php?cat=27233
Thanks for the compliments I haven't been posting on this forum for some time so I decided to make up for some lost time. Thanks for the link I will be looking at that. This viminacium bull and lion I got from the Uk in a coin trade. It's a real nice color in hand and has just enough wear to have an authentic look.* ** This is an overdate 1848/6 groat. Great looking bird on this one.
......So this is how most of my better licinius coins look. Until I finally bought a coin with some nice silvering. I really like jupiters face, the eagle and victory on this one. This is another reverse that I like. On this one Jupiter has a dotted face and I like the details on victory and the eagle. The obv portrait looks too much like homer Simpson so om not even going to post it plus it's corroded. T This is my favorite Constantine VOT reverse it's almost fully silvered. This photo taken under a dim reading lamp and the next two in the morning sunlight on my table to show the silver color.
Here are a few of my favorite fallen horseman reverses. Ae3 constantius II Julian II My best gallienus. I put renax on it in this picture but have since removed it.
I've posted this one before. My favorite Elagabalus with my least favorite US coin design(just my opinion about washingtons portrait it's still a great series to collect)
Some more Byzantine coins. I like how large and heavy these follis coins are. Even the smaller byzantine coins are heavier then most roman coins of the same diameter.
