Don't you love when you get an awesome coin deal once in a great while? I was checking out some ebay auctions last week and came across a lot of 11 Mercury dimes. They were listed in the wrong category and none of the dates were even listed in the description. I could tell they were very nicely album toned, even with the poor seller images. They arrived today, and yeah...I am very happy. Did I mention I paid just above melt for them? $37 for all 11. Woot! Sellers images: My images:
Well, there's not always a happy ending. Merc Crazy didn't do near as well with his "gamble" on these war nickels (and you have to read deep into the thread to find out why): http://www.cointalk.com/t206849/
Nah, don't bother, nothing to see there. gbroke, I went in on a small lot of Mercs a while back (something like 24 for $80), because the photos were unclear but it looked like there were some goodies. I have a feeling that they may have started out similar to those you listed -- but somebody decided to "fix them up" so that they would be shiny and nice again. Not all were cleaned, and I still think I came out ahead on the deal, but it really hurts to see a nice specimen, put it under a spotlight, and watch the hairlines start twinkling. Congrats on your score, though! Especially love that 1916...
Oh man, yeah that is brutal. I will never forget when I purchased the following nickel from ebay a couple years ago... I messaged the seller after I received it just to say how happy I was, and how nice the nickel was. He replied something along the lines of: "I am glad you like it, I was going to clean it to get all that tarnish off of it." So I was happy to save a toner. lol
Yep... after posting 25 times a day for the first year, T$ now makes his semi-annual appearance, lol.
See, there are deals to be had on ebay! Great pics. Do you ever send in your raw puchases to TPG? or do you keep everything raw?
