Just wondering if anyone can tell me why this coin looks like this. I honestly have no idea. Thank you very much in advance.
No why does the obverse of the coin look like this. The coin also seems to be half as thick as it originally was. I have never handled any other 1944 florin, but ever other one I have seen has had a actual obverse and not looked like this.
That's what I was thinking. Could it have been a magnet? I have not done a magnet test as I cannot find mine at the moment.
It was probably some troublesome New Zealanders tired of Australia gettin' all the attention. You know, like the huge red "Rock", "Shrimp on the Barbie" or "Crocodile Dundee."
Well the florin is silver, so the magnet theory doesn't work i suppose. It may be of "Ancient Alien" construction.
It looks as if the unexplained portion of this coin might be added on not original to the coin so I figured it could possibly be magnetic, not the actual coin. If magnetic it would confirm it is not original to the coin. I think????
Yeah that's all good, but you posses a coin with the obverse side that was tooled using an advanced technology far beyond what we would even consider troubling ourselves to do.
Oh wow. I didn't see that second picture was the other side of the coin. I thought it was a well-zoomed of the "I" in Australia.
I can see a goldy sort of colour around the cut out part, it might be glue which would possibly mean it was part of some form of jewellery?
I think, many years ago it was a normal coin. But someone destroyed the obverse (and I don't know why?!). But I'm sure that it was many times ago, 'cos we're can see an old patina on the obverse.
and that the australians have the worlds best rugby league team to boot......................as for the coin it looks like someone has filed down the obverse for god only knows what reason. i have seen this type of thing commonly with the brass uk 3d piect which was often made into a small box by drilling out the centres to make a space and enlarging one to fit over the other.
