Its like being a coke addict. You only suffer temporary, and then you find relief with more affordable coins at fair grades for the rest of your life.

In the medical field that is called a relapse. Once and addict, you must know your always an addict and walk a straight line. But you'll have lots of support at the weeinie roast at the Mall, an our upcoming months CAC users Anonymous meetings.

I think there is a far easier way to remove CAC stickers and not worry about the premium in the first place (that is, if you don't like CAC coins). Don't buy them, and leave them for those of us who want them. :) :)

This is the first time I have EVER agreed 100% with ANYTHING you have said, though... you might want to think about what you said there....

I agree, throw the whole dang thing away. CAC is only part of the group that has brainwashed the hobby into thinking you simply MUST pay others in order to get their blessing that your coin is worthy of being collected. Why not get rid of the ENTIRE system?

If anyone wants notes on how to safely bandsaw free a coin from its prison, let me know. I am getting pretty good at it. :)

    Medoraman,

I resent the implication that I am somehow "brainwashed" because I support the CAC and/or TPGs.

Furthermore, my rationale for supporting them has nothing whatsoever to do with my coins "being worthy of being collected" and all about education and resale value. Does that make me "brainwashed" or "prudent"? I would argue the latter, but you are certainly free to think what you wish.

Getting past that, why I would prefer not to "get rid of the ENTIRE system" is because the opinion of a third party helps to offset the un-level playing field that preceded it, where the dealers could grade and price coins however they wished -- each with their own loose interpretation of some standard. The TPGs (and CAC) have effectively leveled that playing field to a large extent -- including authenticity and grade guarantees that were far weaker before they started -- and made coins more liquid at the same time. Certainly it's not a perfect system, and there is room for improvement, but it is far superior to what preceded it, IMO.

That said, please do me a favor and lay off the generalized insults hurled at collectors -- many of which are more experienced/skilled than you are -- because of your dislike for the TPGs & CAC.

    Thank you...Mike

Amen! You said it all. If people want to devalue their coins, and buy less desirable coins, it is their prerogative. Why they feel it is necessary to be personal about it, I cannot understand.

    Actually, there is a connection.

There will be about the same number of people in the "Remove CAC" movement as there are in the "Occupy" movement. Two, maybe three. :p

FWIW, TPGers and CAC are not synonymous.... did I spel that correctly?

I never said they were. I included TPGs in my response because Medoraman alluded to them when he said:

"CAC is only part of the group that has brainwashed the hobby into thinking you simply MUST pay others in order to get their blessing that your coin is worthy of being collected."

That is what the FWIW is for.

BTW - I was thinking about the silver thread and i was wondering...do you use unleaded gas when driving with a leadfoot?

    I strongly agree with Leadfoot.

We really don't need this condescending attitude. If you prefer raw coins, fine. I have quite a few myself.

But I also have quite a number of slabbed coins. Unlike some folks, I can see the merits and drawbacks of BOTH approaches.

Just because you choose one side, PLEASE do not refer to others with sweeping generalities that we are all "brainwashed".

    We aren't.

An 8-pound sledge hammer works nicely ! heh
