Looking up a coin for a friend: Gold proof coin/medallion/medal Weight: 9.9 grams Diameter: Text: Konrad Adenauer 1876-1967 Medal alignment Slightly larger than a US Quarter (so, about 25 mm?) Non-magnetic I was guessing it was Austrian in origin, but can't find it in the Krause catalogs. Also tried Germany... Here are the photos:
It doesn't seem to have a denomination on it, so it's probably not a coin. Maybe a medal commemorating his death or something like that?
Well, that's what I'm thinking...no country, no denomination, no date...but the reverse looks like Germany/Austria, so I was hoping someone on here who specialized in those countries would point me in the right direction. Mostly, I'm hoping it's gold!
I've seen this before at a local show. It is a medallion honoring the life of Adenauer. The reverse has the family crests of his lineage if I remember what I was told about it correctly. His image also appears on the 2 and 3 Deutsche Marks. There's also a commemorative medal made that commemorates his years as W. German Chancellor from 1949 - 1963, also with the family crests on the reverse.
I think at the time the dealer who had it was asking around $20 for it. There's a show coming up here in a couple of weeks, I'll look for that dealer and see if he still has it and can tell me anymore about it.
