I was looking around at the FCM's website today and spotted an "error coin". Here are the two links. http://www.franklinmint.com/collectible-coins-bullion/additional-coin-selections/error-coins/us-mis-struck-error-coin-collection.html http://www.franklinmint.com/collectible-coins-bullion/additional-coin-selections/error-coins/us-state-quarter-mis-struck-error-coin.html These are NOT error coins. They are canceled coins, aka waffled coins. They are by NO MEANS Rare, as the FCM want's you to think. They are by no means worth $50, about $10 tops.
I have contacted FCM with a cease and desist letter. To whom it may concern. I am an ambassador of the coin collection hobby. I noticed two products on your website that are clearly false advertising. http://www.franklinmint.com/collect...s/us-state-quarter-mis-struck-error-coin.html This is one of them. These coins are not "mis-struck", they are waffled coins from the mint. Your wording makes it sound like these coins were minted like this, and they were not. The claim "error coin" is false. You also say on another link, "Accidentally mis-struck by the U.S. Mint". This claim is also false. I, XXX XXXXX, order you to cease and desist advertising those coins like this. You are clearly taking advantage of young and or new coin collectors, making them think they are buying an actual error coin. Failure to change the advertising to correct information, by stating these are not errors, but "destroyed", "mint cancelled" or "Waffled" coins, by fifteen (15) days will result in possible legal action, by my attorney.
wow.. I Can't wait to see what their attorney replies with. It's threads like this, that give you such a bad reputation on this forum...
But, but, but "Authenticity signature marked by Jay W. Johnson, Former Director of the U.S. Mint" must mean it's worth the money!!! I thought he died last year?
A mission from God! Right up there with all of DC and Marvel superheroes. He's bucking for his own comic book.
Every once in a while, Detecto puts up a good thread, but just when he's starting to look good, BAM! he goes and posts something like this.
Are we desperate for attention today? I must thank you though.. this is the best laugh I've had all day! What a joke.
I did it myself. I get tired of people just letting these types of scams continue. Although no one else seems to care, I care about people getting ripped off and scammed. Let's consider two scenarios. Your grandma asks you what you want for christmas, you tell her an error coin...what if she is a fan of FCM, and orders you that? How would you like to open it up, and expecting an error, you get that instead? Now...what if a young numismatist, orders this, thinking him/her bought an actual error coin, and finds out months later it's not? As a coin collector, I care about other coin collectors, friends/families who buy them things, and new/young numismatists. If someone isn't going to stop this from happening, then I guess I will step up to the plate. Coin collecting is a very fun and exciting hobby, and I don't want to see anyone get burned or ripped off from unscrupulous people and companies. Maybe if one of your friends or family members got scammed, your attitude about this would change.
Detecto, you are a little lap dog, they are pit bulls. You are going into a gun fight armed only with a knife.
Here is something to keep you occupied for awhile make sure to address each one personally http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=waffle&_sacat=11116
I'll tell you what... you have to admire Detecto's youthful enthusiasm. Even though he's fighting a losing battle, he's standing up for his principles, taking on corporate America singlehandedly, lettin' 'em know he's mad as heck and not going to take it anymore.
