I just purchased this raw double eagle today and wanted to share and get opinions.

What do you think the grade would be? What would be a realistic price/value for this coin? Thanks and sorry for the iphone photos. Also, the long scratch on the reverse is on the plastic holder, not the coin.

It's a generic date, coins looks to be MS63 to me. Value would be about melt.

I agree on the grade. It might approach $2k with a clean grade from PCGS/NGC.

Would it be worth sending in and grading, honestly? I have never sent in a coin for grading, so I really don't know how much it would cost.

I'll try to take some better pictures when I get home tonight. Either way, I figured I couldn't go wrong. I paid $1570.00

Then you paid about melt. So apparently the seller basically thought the same thing I did. Would I send it in for grading ? No, no reason to. Slabbed or raw, the coin is still going to sell for the same amount.

Yes, I paid melt. I run a pawn shop so I have the ability to purchase gold/silver anything for melt. (As a side note, I bought it from the customer for $1400. So not ALL pawn shops screw customers. :) ) That is why I was asking, since I didn't buy it from a dealer or collector. I'm still curious as to how much it would cost to get slabbed. Even if it doesn't increase the value, it would still protect it over the years.

Thanks for the input GDJMSP, I definitely value your opinions and assessments.

Put it an Air-Tite or any other hard plastic holder and that will protect it every bit as well as any TPG slab ever will. And for a tiny, tiny, fraction of the cost.

I'm confused. Did you pay $1570 or $1400?

I bought it, through the company, from the customer for $1400. I sold it to myself for $1570.
