Nice Merc! What's a word that means "I'm happy for you yet it also ****es me off?" Hahahah. Envy?

I broke my 6 box skunk streak nicely today with a '63 Franklin and a '64. The head teller at my bank over ordered nickels so I may do a few boxes next week. She said, "I accidentally added an extra zero. I only wanted $100." Not a big fan as I never really find much but taking a few boxes off her hands will make her happy and that's always a good thing.

I'm curious to know what the edge looked like in comparison to roosies/mercs. Can you post a shot? I want to make sure i'm not missing anything. I do my best to check anything that is not obviously clad.

you probably haven't missed any of them then, the one I found was so worn down it was like half the thickness of the other dimes, with a slightly smaller diameter. it is more of a dull gray color as opposed to white like rosies and mercs, and the reeding has long since been worn off.

EDIT: Here's a pic I just took. rosie on the left, barber in the middle, and a merc on the right. with clads on the ends obviously. Oh and I'm also very surprised how well that photo came out, usually I can't get a half decent picture with this camera!

Round two for the day produced 2 40% out of 4 cwr's of halves and two 1963 2 dollar notes. One of the 40%, a 1965, looks like it just came out of a mint set.

Yeah, kinda echoing what pballer said it's pretty unlikely you've missed one, although I'd say they're a bit harder to spot than roosies/mercs. From what I've seen with Barber quarters and dimes, they're significantly thinner than modern coins, either due to wear or most likely because they weren't minted with a raised wire edge like Roosies and such.

Here's a pic of mine in the middle, it was thin and tarnished so it didn't have much of a recognizable silver color, which is why I almost missed it:

I also threw in a roosie for comparison, on the right side of the roll.

I think you could easily prevent overlooking a Barber while edge searching, as long as you look closely at any coin that appears to be thin.

It's just the wear that causes them to be harder to detect than Mercs/Roosies. Remember, Barber coinage was used back when ten cents would buy you a medium ice cream... and they were in-use pretty much well into the '40's. A barber in F or better will stand out almost as much as a Merc/Roosie in similar condition.

I have a question for you Mr Merc Crazy.

What was this about on your visitor message board?

It seems your constantly in the midst of conflict with other members of the board who don't conform to what you view as an acceptable standard of participation. Is that true?

What does this have to do with anything? Merc has been nothing but helpful and polite in the CRH forum.

By accusing someone of being in conflict with other forum members in a public thread, you're just as guilty of starting a conflict. If you have a problem with him you should keep it to PMs.

The only hate I have for Merc is jealousy over his ridiculously awesome CRH finds.

Thanks for the samples and info. I don't think I've missed any then! I inspect everything that is not obviously a clad.

Well whatever it is/was it's over and done with. It was also between Merc and someone else, not you. Why are you trying to cause drama here? Move it along bub.

In other news...I got off the schnide of my 10 box slide of skunks. Grabbed 2 boxes today.

    Box 1: 5 40%ers
    Box 2: 2 40%ers
