[edit: USPS is hassling me with the "how do you know it's worth that much?" argument so Im going to dealer this week to have it looked at]

Thanks for everyone's comments and suggestions.

That one need not be classified as a mint error.

If that is real, that looks to be one of the finest out there and you may be rather well off. However, I have a lot of suspicions and not very many confirmations. I am guessing it is a fake. A good one, but a fake. I would suggest you take it to you local dealer - not to sell it, but to have him confirm and best he can in hand that it is real before you send it in. It may save you a lot of time and worries.

Just got back from the local dealer. He put it under his microscope and said the die scratch was there and that he felt it was genuine. Off to pcgs tomorrow!

Go for it and good luck. If I am reading your pictures correct, that could make up for a whole roll of those 21-D dimes!

NICE COIN! Looks real to me, the fakes of these are usually pretty bad. I think 64RD.

    CONGRATS!

    FYI:

    It is a doubleD die.

    Not a double die.

    Side note:

Usually it is far cheaper to send registered mail and then insure it.

It cost less than straight insured.

Ask them to compare the prices.

oh yes, we figured this out the hard way with sending in my 1889 CC Morgan Dollar to NGC before I found you guys. I believe it was upwards of $65 to send with insurance. The penny was $26.17. And I just now noticed it's supposed to say "doubled" Ha! I seriously thought everyone just said "double die". Makes sense. Thank you!

Registered mail fee includes insurance up to $50K. You must declare the value on the paperwork.

No, registered mail does NOT INCLUDE insurance fees. Insurance can be added (for instance $100,000 insurance costs $143) and it is cheaper that regular mail insurance, but the $11.00 fee does no include insurance.

You guys were right. PCGS also agrees with you that something looked....questionable about that. Genuine, but questionable apparently.

Congrats, it's real and has UNC details. Those are the important aspects, the color is not the big deal. I could live with those conditions for this rarity any day!!

Well, it's not "good" per-say but DEFINITELY better than any of the other "Unc Detail" grades you could have gotten. Unquestionable color is probably the least worst Details grade they could assign you; much better than "Altered Color" or "Cleaned". With some good pictures, you will have no problem selling it in the future; if you plan to do so.

Nice find either way! Congrats on it being certified! :)
