Need better pictures

anyway... I would guess fake until we see better pictures.

 

looks to be in nice condition but no real way to tell an actual grade from those pics.

Use a site like photobucket. It's free and your pics can be as big as you want.

I hope these pics are better. If not I will have to try to figure out thet photo bucket thing. Have a few coins thinking about getting graded thought I would get opinions on some. Thanks

I'll be honest, I know nothing about grading gold coins; however, this one I have a feeling about, like maybe not genuine.

Just looks too pristine for it to have not been slabbed long before now.

And another question; do you think that is the old reverse or new reverse?

 

I think it is new reverse as the o in "of" is round not oval.The arrows also look like the new. Rare earth magnet has no effect at all. Checked all these out before I bought it. Always have my tools with me.

 

Course too, Chinese counterfeits are getting better and better these days and in some instances are using metals that would not attract to a magnet, but like I said, it just seems too pristine for it to have not been slabbed long before now.

Be nice if someone expert on gold 1/4 eagles would chime in with their thoughts.

 

I am also concerned with authenticity. Looks like a 64 or better if authentic, though.

 

Merc, what about it gives you that feeling?

It almost looks like it's PL, and hardly any wear noticeable at all to me, for a 151 year old coin.

 

Keep in mind due to numi value a lot of the counterfeits are actually made of real gold, where did you buy this?

 

Too good to be true. It looks like a T1, which would mean in MS64, it's a $11k coin.

 

Bought this at a smaller estate auction. Not many coin or silver/gold buyers there mostly antique buyers, paid gold value, I was the only one I saw with even a scale there. Few people came up to me and ask if there really was a 2 1/2 dollar coin made. Have picked up a few gold coins at auctions in the past year or so, some at larger auctions and some at smaller ones. I will add pics to that photo bucket site as I get time.

 

It also has that like-it-just-came-off-the-press-like-5-minutes-ago look to it.

But like I said, and admitted to, I know nothing about gold coins as I do not collect them, but it just doesn't look right to me.

 

Knowing its value you are better off sending it to be graded unless someone actually handles the coin and looks at the strike closely you can verify it as genuine.

 

I see what you mean about looking so 'freshly minted'. It does seem to be just too perfect.
Hopefully it is real. You found one heck of a gold coin if it is.
