Italy 1927 10 Lire & 1936 5 Lire awesome designs - Vittorio Emanuele coins

Emperor Vittorio Emanuele III was the King of Italy from 1900 to 1946. He was the only son of the Italian King Umberto I. In 1900, Vittorio Emanuele III was 30 years old when his father Umberto was assassinated. During Vittorio’s subsequent 46 year reign, the Kingdom of Italy was involved in two World Wars. Also, his reign encompassed the rise and fall of Italian Fascism.

These two NEWPs were issued during Vittorio Emanuele’s reign. IMO the coins include really awesome reverse designs. The 1927 10 Lire coin depicts a biga (2-horse chariot) driven by a nice lady holding a fasces. The 1936 5 Lire depicts another nice lady with four children.

Here is a better photo depicting the reverse of the 1936 Italy 5 Lire.

The Krause catalog describes the reverse as a woman seated with three children. I count four children.

 

This coin has been passed down in my family.

 

That is obviously a nice piece.

The seated woman is an allegorical representation of Italy, with her sons. This coin in Italy is known as 5 lire "Fertility".
