So I sent in 5 Morgans for regrades a while back. I got notice (and registry update) with the final grades. I figured I'd give you all a chance to test your skills / knowledge and to see if you feel PCGS got it right. I'll post results in a few days. Where do you think these started and ended up? 1882 1882-O
1st) 64 (although, a weak strike may have held it back to MS63) 2nd) 63 3rd) 64 (+?) 4th) 64 5th) 63 Give us a hint - Are there any "plus grades" included? If so, I may need to revise. Nice lot, by the way! :thumb: -Brian
No hints, I want this purely organic and "first read" Are you guessing what they are coming back as or original grades? Maybe a ?? / ?? for original / new would make it more clear for me Also, I'm new to grading which is why I sent these in for regrades in the first place. If you have reasons for your opinions I would like to know why you feel it is a certain grade. Thanks!
Wow, could have sworn they were 63s. Okay, so then they probably all came back exactly the same as 64.
To me, the 1889 is the most likely of the 5 for an upgrade. THe 1902 is the best looking overall for that purpose, but I think they all came back as submitted, now knowing that they were 64s to begin with. I'd have bought any of them, as they are nice coins.
so, jello was right. The 1889 DOWNGRADED to a 63... I personally don't get it, it's the most flawless of all of them, save for the small dig on the reverse. All of the others kept 64. I'm tempted to crack out the 1889 and re-send it in, but it would only benefit me if it goes to 65... same with any other them. The 1902 would be the other candidate. Of course I was hoping the 1892 was coming back MS-65 (it almost increases in value by 5x) but can understand why it didn't. There is a planchet flaw on the chin of the obverse... I've looked on Heritage and seen worse coins in 65 AND 66 holders. Hence my hope that at least 1 or 2 would come back 65. I can't say I'm not a little sad / disappointed at the result to be honest. Thanks for your input!
Bag mark by the ear on the 1889-P. All could grade was 2 side TPG grade 3 Obv Rev Rim. but the Rev on the 89-P looked MS-65 to me.
