1858 50c Thank you for the fast reply back. Have you ever seen anything like this? It is as rare as I think?
Btw, could I get a recommendation on where coin shows are in my area? Central Iowa. Like a web site or magazine (without a lot of ads). Coin events, news, etc. I'm so excited to be collecting. It's an awesome feeling to preserve history and share it with others who appreciate the same thing.
Proofs were always minted in limited numbers in those days. It is worth about $1500.00. Very nice coin, where did you pick it up?
Not a rare coin. I don't know where you are getting that only 205 are known to exist, as most proofs were tucked away by collectors from day one. That number may refer to the number of pieces graded. Probably about a $1600- $1800 coin. You may want to look at Heritage to see what they are selling for there. Guy
An NGC member could give you the pop of this particular grade. I don't think they're particularily rare. The NGC price guide gives a value of $2000. in the 64 grade. Nice coin!
Ok. Thanks. That great information. I will keep researching to verify the information that only 205 exist. And thanks for the info on coin shows. I got it from a local coin shop in Quad Cities in Moline, Iowa.
@coleguy (You may want to look at Heritage to see what they are selling for there) I appologize for my ingornace in advance, but what is Heritage? a web site?
