    TAMPA --

The U.S. Supreme Court has again steered clear of an international dispute over a half-billion dollars in gold and silver that a local salvage company discovered and brought from the ocean floor to Tampa.

The justices on Monday rejected appeals from Odyssey Marine Exploration, the deep-sea exploration company that found the wreck of a sunken Spanish galleon, and Peru, both of which objected to court rulings awarding the treasure to Spain.

this really ticks me off. The Spanish exploit South America and cause Genocide. then they exploit the native amerans and rip off all their gold and silver. Then they lose the Gold and Silver in a battle with the english. They go through 4 different Sovereign governments from that time period including a Monarchy, and republic, a Facist Dictatorship, and now a Democracy...and yet they still claim to be the same government. I'd like to see the Spanish held to all those treaties they have signed in 500 years.

They deserve nothing except to pay restitution to Peru. Mexico and Bolivia.

They don't even get salvage rights? I thought that it was pretty standard. They should go dump it all back in the water where they found it and let Spain pay the millions of dollars it cost to recover the coins.

As far as I know, according to what I'm reading, the Spanish simple landed their planes and walked away with everything. The Odesy as a website

I think Spain's assertion that all of their transport ships were military ships is a pretty thin justification for this. Maybe its time to classify all US flagged vessels as military vessels...
