While we are on the topic of Ball Point Pens, mothers don't let your children see this video

I think the light bulb was the greatest invention. Without it i couldn't enjoy my coins at night. The pen would be useless if you couldn't see because you didn't have a lightbulb

Over here we do not really use the "classic" lightbulb any more, but it sure was an important step. And yet, before you had those things called candles, and later gas lamps, etc. etc. :D

  5. I would have thought it was wipping paper.
How many of us here enjoyed the out door johns with sears as your best wipper.

  6. I think the computer and the Internet have had a tremendous impact on numismatics. TC

Yeah, well, I think coins are the most important invention in history. They should make a commemorative coin honoring the invention of coins.

Boy, I can never remember being edited before. FWIW - the edited section had no porn or personal attacks :)

That's a good one. So is the oil-film thrust bearing. If we didn't have maintenance-free oil-film bearings, then all your power generators would be under repair instead of making power.

What about the invention of the spoken word.....

    The ballpoint pen? Really?

I'm sorry, but an invention that merely improves our capability to do something should not even be considered as "The most important invention in history".

...and, pencils are the obvious choice for calculus! ;)

pumpkinpie what is this I don*t even

I can think of lots of inventions more important than the ballpoint pen.
    Computers
    Radio
    CoinTalk
    Plastics
    Internal Combustion Engine
    Electricity
    Wheel
    Light bulb
    Robotics
The list goes on and on.

What is so amazing about the thermos bottle is that if you put something hot in it, it keeps it hot. And yet if you put something cold in it, it keeps it cold.

Nope, just an old HP handheld, my mechanical pencil, and a great big eraser. :)

I wish I used a slide ruler, they were before my time, but look like an interesting thing to know how to operate.

the best thing about a slide ruler was that you could use it to slap the students head in front of you...really hard.

I had a TI calculator and a ball point pen. My kids learned with these stupid programmable calculators. What a darn waste and the biggest sweethart contract in US history.
