My latest purchase. A 1917 plain Winged Liberty. I was thinking G6, my friend who knows way more about this type than I do says VG8. I had to stay back and man the shoppe, so when my boss went out to run some errands I handed him my last $3 and said "Can you get me a Mercury?". This is what he came back with. Got it for $2.25. At any rate, I love her. Only my 4th Winged Liberty, and POSSIBLY my 2nd 1917. I say possibly because I do have another one that is worn WAYYYY down to almost slick around the edges and the date is all mucked up.

I shot another photo of this monster just before I mailed it off over a month ago. It is currently at PCGS and I am hoping for crossing at grade (PCGS MS67) -- though I honestly don't think it will make it (PCGS is such a stickler on MS67 Morgans). I wanted to get this in a PCGS slab so that I could get a TrueView photo of it, but that might be a pipe dream. Thought it was worth a roll of the dice. I will let you know what PCGS says about this as soon as I hear something. I am thinking PCGS will want to MS66 this -- if that's the case, it will be staying in the NGC slab as there is too much of a price gap between 67 and 66.

Picked up a few gold label ANACS' cents.
23S and 24D came off of HC....
15S and 09vdb from the 'bay...

Cracked and sent to NGC to see how'd they cross.

    Results:
    23S ANACS AU58 > NGC AU58
    24D ANACS AU55 > NGC AU50
    15S ANACS AU53 > NGC XF45
    09VDB PCI MS63 RB > NGC MS65 RB

... just an observation in my lil' world of playing with coins. I've had much much better luck crossing PCI to NGC and PGCS than I have ANACS, especially the more common dates... the key dates can be trouble with PCI.. and ANACS.

You could call that a psychodelic penny or a bullseye penny. VERY nice.

I had the good fortune recently of purchasing a 2011 5-pound sterling silver with fine gold plate Royal Wedding Crown, locally for just $54.00. I was the sole bidder. The retail is $160.00. The 5-pound Crown comes in a beautiful white soft-leather case. All class from the Royal Mint.

  17. Love them original and crusty. Luckily some idiot didn't get their hands on them and dip them.

Beautiful coin--can you excuse an ignorant question from a newbie? I thought slabs were sealed, so how do you revert to the NGC if you don't like the PCGS result? Do you mean that you send it back to NGC again? Sorry, I'm probably the only one here who owns a grand total of zero slabs

Sorry if this question is stupid too, but how on earth did you do that??!

Beautiful coin, but it's the circumstance that's really amazing.

Wow, I just noticed this thread is only 9 likes away from 6000.

I wonder if this might be not only the most posted (longest) thread in the history of CoinTalk, but also the most liked thread?

242 pages, 3619 posts, and 5991 likes ... those are eye popping numbers

The roll-searchers thread has to be creeping towards 20k posts by now.
