First off I know a lot about gun safety ive been around guns all my life and I'm a marine. The reason it says novice is referring to my gun smithing and repair abilities. Besides if someone has a problem with me just because of guns they are obviously some whacked out liberal and i would rather not here from them if they have a problem with guns and they cant put that aside and simply reply to a thread all personal views aside

 

Easy killer...I wasn't implying anything about your gun skills. Not sure how you could possibly read so much into that. But it's all good. I have no issues with guns.

To the OP's original question the most valuable coin I've ever owned is an 1842/1 Humbert gold piece. Sold it for $7500.

 

Id love to have a gold coin. Never held one or seen in person but they look so cool

 

careful, gold is even more alluring than silver!!

I suggest you start out with a $5 modern gold eagle, maple leaf or krugerrand.

 

Don't have anything too valuable. Just have two 1/10oz American gold eagles. One of which I over paid for before I really understood too much about coins and im still kicking myself in the butt for that one. But that's a good place to start with gold or maybe an Indian head quarter eagle shouldn't be too expensive either.

 

An 1878 CC well worn Morgan that was handed down to me and my brother by my Grandmother. Sentimental value is priceless........

I was buying coins loooong ago and somehow managed to come up with some 2 peso gold pieces. When gold went up so much I was looking through what I have and found 6 of them. Nice. As far as the most valuable, I bought a F-12 1794 large cent Sheldon 55 that I think has appreciated in the 30-40 years I have owned it.

 

A 1945 Mercury Dime that I paid $3 for turned out to be "Full Band" and in MS64 condition. I sold it for $4,200.00 and gave a $1,000 to the person from whom I bought the coin. :yes:

 

One of my biggest problems with this hobby is how cheap I've found many of my local coin friends to be! You sir are a fair, just and reasonable man! Thanks for your service in the 36th Armored too!!
