Just got this today. Does this look like a 63?

    Hello

One needs to understand that I didn't post 6 messages to "rip up" your coin. What I did was respond to messages made by 6 of my close friends here on cointalk, that happen to be all in your thread.

In any event, keep in mind a few things. I have had many 63 Morgans that I have loved and a few that have been PLs or DMPL. I know from my history of dealing with these coins and after looking over hundreds if not thousands of photographs, that the photography covers up some of the imperfections involved in grading and attenuates others. Light breaks in the surface, for example, looks much worse in photos then it does in the hand, especially with Proof like coins. Grading if a coin is proof like is almost impossible from a photograph without reflection from a newspaper or looking at it as a movie. However, this coin has several bag marks or scratches in the face area of the coin on the Obverse that makes fall comfortably into the MS63 grade. There one on the lips, on the neck, on the hair, near the nose, and a star is missing a point on the lower part of the coin (which might be a variety issue)...and in many other places. The reverse is much cleaner.

HOWEVER, the image that you sent has been magnified and stepped on so often that it hides much of the imperfections that one would otherwise see. You can see the dithering from the image being manipulated or resized numerous times. So based on that, your not seeing with claerity the imperfections that I'm identifying..

Try looking at it closely and see the scratches. Its a nice nice 63. For the right price i would buy it.

Aside from the fact that you're guessing at what is imperfections on the coin and what is on the slab, he is only asking if it would upgrade to *MS-64*. A MS-64 Morgan is not a 'mark free' coin. I've seen worse 64s than this coin.
I think this Morgan should have gotten a 64 at minimum. I would have to see it in hand to tell if one could argue for a 65 grade. If he told us it was a 65, without disclosing any more information, I don't think anybody would have questioned it.

It should have about 4 or 5 marks on it, none in the focal areas. This coin doesn't qualify for that. At has scratches in the face area. Its a bad photograph as well.

IMO - this coin is much better that the OP's coins. Is it a 65? I'd need a better pciture At 65 levels they need to really start being clean, and this coin has a minor break in the luster. Also at 65, strike starts to come in as a role, more so on 66s.

BTW - Ves, why are you so uptight tonight. I've never seen you so agressive and I've been reading you for years now.

Brooklyn, you still have an attitude in every single one of your responses--just take a Xanax, dude, and relax. The coin looks better than you think it does, and don't freak out that much, as I honestly don't care--I am keeping it no matter what it grades for, as I like it. You are coming off very "grumpy old men" on my original thread. If you don't think so, read it over again, and check yourself out. Perhaps this is the way you act normally in NY? I haven't been in the North in 14 years, so I forgot your 'rude tude.' :) :) :)

You are really coming off hostile, and I was being amused for most of this thread--talk about a hijacking!

4 or 5 nicks on a Morgan and it is a 63? I think, sir, you do not know Morgans the way you claim to. I will post other pics later of a few 64s and 65s with more than 4 or 5 nicks that have made those grades. Think you are being completely unrealistic. Moreover, the picture isn't that bad. Your picture shows nothing, purposefully, so as to make your coin look better. It is at an angle, and is not a "head on" shot.

That was the point I made early on, and can be borne out on the photographs, especially showing the hologram area on the reverse. It is a beat up slab, and I got as close to the coin as I could to show the actual strike and minimal contact marks. There are many nicks on the slab itself. Just for fun, when I have time, I will polish the slab and it will clarify some of the back and forth. Face it, we have all had 64 Morgans with LOTS of bag marks--they are big coins, and they get that way. I have a picture on the CC thread of my one of my 64s, and has many more contact marks than this one. So, what-me-worry? Not reselling it now, so not really concerned--this was a fun exercise, and it turned out to be Ruben's hijack with an attitude. Too bad for that.

There is someone with an attitude problem here, but that would be the person looking to crack out a coin and only wants to hear thing that he agrees with. Its OK - I know how to use the ignor box.

MS64 (look at all the scrapes on the neck and cheek. Even in the field): http://www.ebay.com/itm/1899-O-MORG...33?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item3cc59a194d

    MS64: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1879-US-Mor...06?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item3f17294596

    MS64: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1880-S-VAM-...51?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item3f16e294e3

MS64PL (Look at the marks in the left field): http://www.ebay.com/itm/1881-S-US-M...70?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item46037ffffa

Now here's an exceptional 64 that to me is only a 64 likely because of the scuff mark in the field, in front of Liberty's eye. Otherwise, this is a really nice, above average 64 to me:

I agree that this coin is completely misgraded and should be an MS 62.

I'm not going to walk through a bunch of ebay junk. If you want to really see this, go to heritage and look at 50 MS63's of a year and mint mark, and then 64's and then 65s. Try to see the general differences and the prices of examples.

Also Vess - the orignal posters photograph is junk. That is why I posted an image of my MS63 in blow up.

Just as a reference. This has to be one of the most misgraded coins I'd ever seen

This guy, Brooklyn keeps complaining about me and my coin, and keeps posting on MY thread. What exactly is his problem, other than lack of knowledge and attitude? Oh, well, that is why there is an ignore list. Just somebody please explain to me why he has that attitude, as all I did was post a coin that I thought MIGHT have been misgraded. He attacks me personally, attacks my photographs, which were no better nor worse than his, and attacks my coin so vehemently? What did I do--kick his dog or something????

    Hello

Maybe - but I just circled imperfections I spotted. I'm sorry if I got it all wrong.
