1980 quarter error??

    Im new to coin collecting and i came by this quarter today. is this an error coin or is it just smashed on the side because of circulation? and I believe its P but its hard to tell

    It's hard to tell from the pics, but I believe the coin struck something ? The rim seemed to follow around the indentation suggesting it happened after the minting process. PMD )post mint damage)

    Could be a clipped planchet error although i think they may be a little more dramatic like the one i posted. Thats the best i can do for you i just dont see enough of these to be able to be of more assistance although im sure someone else will chime in with a good answer soon.
