Vette, I agree with you completely. We were all trying to tell the dude this, and he went all babyish on us. Nowadays, getting a PL has to have SOLID mirrors.
No that bit of black in the hair is on the coin. Its just black toning and is in a few crevices along the hair.
just putting this out there... I had two morgan dollars that I thought were DMPL's when I tested the reflectiveness with newspaper it was around 8" for one and over 10" for the other (still being able to read the words). I thought that these would most likely come back as DMPL's because comparing them to my PL's in a 65 they were 100X better... I sent them in and got them back a week ago... MS-62... NGC has changed their grading standards for PL's and DMPL's... comparing this coin to mine at PL's I would say that this wouldn't even come close to being a PL, unless you get a easy grader. Check out my MS-62 on my other threads if you want (1881-s and 1882-s) -Kyle
I just checked out the 81 and 82. Nice coins. The pics made it a bit hard to tell exact grades or such though. But they both had great reflectivity. So the 81 didnt get a details holder? Just a regular MS62 holder?
Both the 1881s and 1882s were given a ms-62 PL. There are light scratches on the obv. Of the 1881s but i took the risk anyway.
Lol Chris you crazy. CC DPMLs like a BOSS! and ya SilverSpoon I agree with ya. It could go 63PL given it has minimal contact strikes or such but even at 63PL it would not warrant the price of the slab and 63PL is the highest I could hope for with 62PL possibly more likely. I will just keep this puppy raw and be happy to get 70-120 whenever I do sell it RAW.
Pure poetry and I have no response to which I can agree. Thank you for this post. Please give us more like it. Ruben
I wanted to have some fun. Perhaps give others ideas to show off their coins reflectiveness. These where taken with the can approx 12-13 inches away (it would have worked farther but my copystand is not huge). The can I used has print slightly smaller then that of a dollar bill. If this isnt a PL, meh...
pfff Don't they have newspapers where you live? This is so simple and you created a complete lab bench
lol Brook I keep getting mixed up on the ruler test. Some have said I take a ruler then see how many inches I can read (the number) Others say you put a ruler by a newspaper. Which one is it lol. Either way my mad scientest experiment showed off the reflections a bit better then previously Told ya I wasent crazy and this one was a bit mirror like lol.
take the newspaper 12 inches from teh coin and see if you can read the type in the papragraph ...not the headline.
OMG this was fun! It went out of focus slightly at 13 inches(i think it might have been the camera not the coin). These were 12.5 inches away and its pretty easy to read. I flipped the ultra close up so the letters are not backwards .
The obverse is only about 75% of the reflectivity that the reverse has maybe even only 70 or 65% of it. It would probably stop at 7-10 inches from being crystal clear. I do think the reverse could push farther then 12.5 inches though. It seemed like my camera just didn't wanna focus on the paper after 12.5 :/ I am happy though. I had to show off the lil guy in a good light since everyone kept saying hes trash and wouldn't even make PL .
