Stop using eBay and then you can stop complaining about it. It's that easy. No one is forcing you to use eBay to buy your coins.

So an item doesn't sell and it gets relisted and relisted, again and again.
Other than in your head, there are no rules against it.
Why does this upset you so much?
Why do you let this upset you so much?

Teletrade and HA come to mind...but with the BP they have, it would be more than eBay.

It would seem that specific coin is just hard to find currently. Hence why there is only 4 of them on Ebay currently all over 100.

Thats the coin market, heck thats every market. Supply n demand.

Sometimes you gotta list a coin for way under book, or just hold onto it till later.

Other times theres not many or any of a certain coin on the market and you can demand more for your coin.

I do not see why this would work you up so much though. If you don't like a price of something don't buy it.

When I search for coins. go to auction only. click on minium 2 bids placed. You will get to the true auctions. there arent many but that is all i look at now when searching for coins

A seller has no "right" to a profit. He has the right to try to make a profit but if he originally overpaid for his item, then it's just tough nuggies for him.

Agreed. I've overpaid many times...education is not cheap. I either keep it, or sell it as a loss.

But what makes more sense? Selling it for a small loss, or re listing it over and over at the same price?

It does not really upset me, but it gets old seeing the same coins up for auction week after week.

I do not fully understand why people can not let a thread initiated by someone they do not like or respect go by without their stamp of disapproval. Detecto has not broken any rule. If you do not like it, start your own about eBay. If you keep looking for a specific member on a thread to disrespect, you are the troll, so lighten up or leave the thread alone.

Probably because many of the coins get listed for free under eBay policy of allowing 50 free listings per month.
That wouldn't work for dealers with hundreds of listings but for collectors trying to unload some excess material it costs nothing to continuously list the same coin at an inflated price hoping a sucker will come along.

It upsets me because when Ebay started it was random people selling things they didnt want anymore. Now its turned into another gigantic retail store with 95% crap. They should open a Ebay 2, for small sellers, auction only just how it used to be.

I don't know about repeat auction listings, but if you are talking about BIN listings, the cost to the seller is $0.20 per month. So if the seller lists the item for an entire year, he pays $2.40. But you think he should drop the price by $10 or $20 after a few months. If the seller can afford to have his capital tied up, it makes perfect sense to keep re-listing the same item month after month at the higher price.

Perhaps you should become a more savvy E-Bay buyer rather than complaining about the evil E-Bay sellers. Personally, I have at least 5 different coins that are listed at ultra high prices simply as a way to draw people to look at my other items. I know they won't sell, but the monthly fee to list the coin basically becomes and advertising cost. And IMO, a cost well spent since those coins with ultra high prices have the most followers.

Instead of looking for a good deal on a coin, why don't you search for reputable dealers on E-Bay and then save them as your favorite sellers and look forward to their new stock each month?

Yet you manage to come here and post numerous threads about how upsetting it is to you that people are scamming others, taking away your bargains, selling at insanely high prices, and blah blah blah. That's not quite in synch with you not really being upset at it.

Someone who isn't upset wouldn't spend the time to complain about it on a online forum. ;)

Just pointing out its actually 50 cents per BIN. 20 cents is for tier 1 paid subscription ebayers.

I don't take advantage of anyone. I never have, and never will.

If I take a proof set worth $5, and put $8 on it, that's not taking advantage of people. My gas, time, and table fee is not free.

If a coin is worth $20 and I offer the person $15, I'm not taking advantage of anyone. I do like to buy a discount but I don't rip people off. I give people more money for coins than any dealer would.

The eBay ecosystem is pretty large. If it was not profitable to relist an item 10 times before some will pay/overpay for it, then it would become extinct. Believe me, I totally agree that it seems crazy to relist an item over and over at the same price 99% of people wont pay, but many sellers are hoping that eventually the RIGHT buyer will come along, fall in love with the item, and pulls the trigger on the coin. And in fact, this MUST happen, or we would not see this type of selling. So, since some sellers can sit on a coin until the right buyer comes along, you will continue to see this on eBay.

I dont think it is wrong to start a thread about it, or to voice disatisfaction about it, since it puts coins you and I would like to purchase out of reach, but you must also realize that it's just the reality of the situation.

Keep in mind, a given seller might get sick of relisting and not selling a particular coin, and maybe he needs to take his wife on trip next month, and all of a sudden the coin you've been eyeing for 3 months is relisted at an acceptable price. This is economics. The natual tug of war between buyers and seller to find the "correct" market price for the coin. .99 auctions let this price bubble up to the correct spot. With overpriced BIN listings, it's just a matter of how much financial resources /flexibility the seller has. For some sellers with lots of money, there is no pressure to sell until Mr. right comes along and pays. Other sellers who have less flexibilty might relist 5 times, and then give in and lower the price to what the market considers fair, and then all of sudden there are mutiple buyers. This is where being persitant pays off.

As a side note, I dont understand why *some* people here are always complaining about Detecto's threads. Notice many of them are multi-page? He is promoting discussion, promoting coin collecting, and has a general enthusiasm about the hobby, hence he is a prolific thread starter. Not everything he says is going to be a revelation, but not everything he says is going to be worthless. You could say the same about 95% of the people here. Just saying...
